Recently I wrote a blog post about the tendency of anime girls with blue hair to fail to be chosen romantically. But in reality, there are plenty of blue hair anime girls who find love. Let’s discover the truth behind the Blue Hair Curse in this blog post!
We love a good parody onahole from Tamatoys, and they’ve created the Shitanoko Hekoheko Koshi PanPan ero toy, an onahole you can use on any flat surface. It’s a fun new way to relieve your stress! Find it in stock here.
Why Do Anime Fans Think Blue Hair Anime Girls Never Win Love?
If there’s one thing humans do, it’s recognize patterns…even when they’re not necessarily there. The first thing we do as babies is learn the patterns in the faces of our mothers and fathers. Then we begin the slow process of assembling language and grammar inside our brains. Before we know it, we’re seeing the shapes of ancient gods in the constellations above us, despite these stars often being farther from each other than they are from us.
The Blue Hair Curse in anime resembles the Red Shirt Curse in the original Star Trek. We all remember seeing random crewmen with red shirts beaming down to a planet with the main cast and encountering a violent death at the hands of a lava monster or something. There’s just one problem: nearly the same number (29% vs 32%) of yellow-shirt command crew as red-shirt operations/engineering crew die in episodes of Star Trek, while a fair number of blue-shirt science officers (22%) also kick the bucket.
The Blue Hair Curse is also not perfect. In reality, plenty of anime girls with blue hair beat out their rivals and win love in a harem anime. The number is lower than brown- or blonde-haired characters who win the romance battle, but it’s not zero.
Which Blue Hair Anime Girls Won Romantically? Let’s Find Out!
Aoi Sakuraba from Ai Yori Aoshi
One of the most compelling harem anime of the early 2000s told the story of two lovers separated by the circumstances of their wealthy families. Happily, the pure-hearted Aoi was able to overcome many challenges and be with Kaoru-sama at the end of the manga.
Mitsuki Hayase from Rumbling Hearts
Another gem from the early 2000s was Rumbling Hearts, aka Kimi Ga Nozomu Eien. It had a ridiculous story about two lovers who couldn’t be together because of the guilt they felt over their friend Haruka receiving an injury that put her into a coma. Download speeds were slow back in those days, and I remember it taking over a week to get the next episode.
Kaname Chidori from Full Metal Panic
Another flamboyant anime girl with blue hair who won romantically in the end.
Masuzu Natsukawa from OreShura
A love triangle anime based on a light novel series, My Girlfriend And My Childhood Friend Create A Scene Of Bloodshed With Their Fighting, was a lot of fun. In the end, the kuudere Masuzu won the prize.
Bulma from Dragon Ball, Our First Blue Hair Anime Waifu
Bulma wasn’t just a constant source of eye candy for early anime fans. She went on to become Vegeta’s wife.
Erio Touwa from Ground Control To Psychoelectric Girl
The alien (?) girl from Denpa Shounen to Seishun Otoko — which had the most banging opening theme ever — finally wins a future with Makoto, and they live happily ever after. But, er, aren’t they cousins?

Rikka fromChu2koi Is the Blue Hair Anime Girl We Want to Marry
Another girl with “8th-grader’s disease” is Rikka Takanashi. Watching how she worked past her childish inner fantasies to get to a place where she could experience normal love with Yuta as season one unfolded was glorious. Then season two came along and messed up the perfect story. This is why some fans refuse to watch new anime seasons even if studios make them for us.
Chtholly From WorldEnd
As far as I can tell, the WorldEnd: What Do You Do at the End of the World? Are You Busy? Will You Save Us? anime exists only because shuumatsu can phonetically mean “weekend” as well as “the end of the world.” Happily, the blue hair heroine Chtholly is able to win in the end!
Akane Tendou Made Our Hearts Soar
Another important character in anime was Akane from Ranma 1/2. She was the first true tsundere, a character whose personality was 90% anger and 10% lovey-dovey moments. And fans quickly learned to obsess over those occasional tender moments between the two characters.
Sailor Mercury and Sailor Jupiter
Finally, one of our favorite couples to ship back in the 1990s was Ami and Makoto. Who cared what was going on in the main Sailor Moon story. We wanted to read doujinshi about these two finding their way into bed together!
Thanks for reading this blog post about ten blue hair anime girls who were able to find romance. Did we miss any character? If so, tell us in the comments below!
