I’ll gleefully admit that I’m an “eww dubs” snobby otaku. But now more than ever, accessibility is on my mind. I can blame Love Unseen Beneath the Clear Night Sky for my newfound consideration. Everyone deserves to watch anime comfortably. That’s why I’m elated that OceanVeil is dubbing Marika’s Love Meter Malfunction. Sure, the anime didn’t amuse me the way I thought it would. But sometimes you need a low-thought anime with plenty of oppai. Nay, sometimes it’s the only thing that can get you through an “everything went wrong” day.
But enough about my ramblings — let’s get to the news portion of this article. OceanVeil announced that the dub version of Marika’s Love Meter Malfunction will premiere on September 3 at 10:00 a.m. (PDT). Marika-chan no Koukando wa Bukkowareteiru’s English voice cast includes:
- Ciarán Strange (Denji in Chainsaw Man) as Kanata Kitami
- Kelsey Jaffer (Akari in Adam’s Sweet Agony) as Marika Chitose
- Caroline Orejeula (no major roles) as Niino Hidaka
- Darcey Lee (no major roles) as Sayuki Toyotomi
- Katy Johnson (Gusokumushi’s Imouto in Love Live! Superstar!) as Kokona Mikasa
- Steve Nuñez (Name a recent hentai, and there’s a 60 percent chance he worked or starred in it) as Narrator

Marika’s Love Meter Malfunction Manga Deets and Synopsis
Marika-chan no Koukando wa Bukkowareteiru adapts Rin Komugi’s manga of the same name. Suiseisha has serialized the manga through its Trahison label since 2024. The publisher has compiled the manga into 23 digital single-chapter volumes. Suiseisha Comics began publishing the manga in print in April 2026. WWWave Corporation’s Coolmic releases the English version of the manga.
Studio Leo adapted the manga into a short-form anime, which aired earlier this year. The anime has two versions — a censored broadcast and the cultured one, which you can stream on OceanVeil.
Marika’s Love Meter Malfunction follows Kanata Kitami, a dude who’s been crushing on his childhood friend for way too long. But like most anime MCs, Kanata lacks the balls to confess to his potential sweetheart. So, he does what anybody would do and wishes upon a shooting star. However, instead of wishing for reciprocal love, he asks to see women’s love meters! But it backfires, as Marika’s love meter doesn’t show an ounce of love for Kanata. Yet, things aren’t what they appear. Marika is completely infatuated with him. Her love is so intense that it defies measurement!
Hoorah, Hoorah OceanVeil!
While I have my concerns about a single company stockpiling most ecchi and erotic anime, no one else wants to. So, my concerns are moot. But at least OceanVeil treats anime like Marika’s Love Meter Malfunction with the love they deserve.
