Battle Spirits [Re] Zekkai no Ku — New PV Reveals Premiere Date for Fiery TCG Anime

Man, it’s been a while since I watched a TCG-based (trading card game) anime outside of Yu-Gi-Oh! clips. This series is the newest entry in a long-running anime adaptation that began back in 2008, too. It seems the localizers butchered their jobs, and the corporate types didn’t even bother to advertise the series here in the US. Fellow otaku, we shall spite them and watch Battle Spirits [Re] Zekkai no Ku anyway. It has monsters and samurai, but the trailers haven’t shown much in the way of waifus yet.

Battle Spirits [Re] Zekkai no Ku News, Cast, Staff

Battlers will take to the (card) battlefield on October 6th, 2026. Now, Bandai Namco Pictures (formerly Sunrise) animates the adaptation. Masashi Kudo serves as director and character designer, and Toshizo Nemoto writes the series. JAM Project performs the opening theme song “Here we are!” and Himegoto performs the ending theme song “Pulse.”

Three of the central duelists are as follows:

• Ku Bashin — Taichi Kusano (Nesia Gand from From Old Country Bumpkin to Master Swordsman). Ku is a spirited Battler who uses a red deck.
• Zetsu Ajara — Daiki Hamano (Guile India from Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon?). Zetsu is a ronin who hunts Eternal Battlers with his green deck.
• Yui Kusumoto — Mariya Ise (Himeno from Chainsaw Man). Yui is Ku’s childhood friend and a fellow Battler who uses a white deck.

Draw Cards and Swords on the Battlefield! Battle Spirits [Re] Zekkai no Ku

Bashin and Zetsu are Battlers in an ancient Japan setting, which looks so cool. Not as cool as Yu-Gi-Oh!’s ancient Egypt setting, but cool nonetheless. These guys have swords, yet they still choose to draw cards and settle things on the playing field. I wonder if the swords even play a part. Does someone go on their knees for the coup de grâce when they lose the match?

The monsters are all CG, which I suppose is nothing new nowadays. I prefer actual animation for fantastic beasts, but they look passable. The studio formerly known as Sunrise is at the helm, and I’m willing to give them a chance. I’m more curious to see these two in action and find out why Zetsu is going after the high-tier Battlers. And we need some quality card-battling waifus in this.

Battle Spirits [Re] Zekkai no Ku anime summary:

The series takes place in the Edo Era.
A turbulent era that would later be known as the end of the Edo period.
A boy drawn to Battle Spirits and seeking strength—Ku Bashin.
A man known as The Assassin—Zetsu Ajara, who has to fulfill a promise.
Two paths intersect, and history is set in motion.

Bandai and Sunrise developed the original Battle Spirits trading card game and released it sometime in September 2008. The series has spawned numerous anime, manga, and video game adaptations.
