Reirin Kou is a beloved court lady and Maiden. Her sickly demeanor belies a kind heart and resilient spirit. These traits have earned the Crown Prince’s favor and made her the front-runner as the future Empress. A woman with the exact opposite personality to hers has planned quite literally to take her place in the royal court. Keigetsu Shu has used magic to swap bodies with Reirin. We’ll see how this plan unfolds when Though I Am an Inept Villainess: Tale of the Butterfly-Rat Body Swap in the Maiden Court (Futsutsuka na Akujo dewa Gozaimasu ga: Suuguu Chouso Torikae Den) premieres sometime in July 2026.

Though I Am an Inept Villainess, I Hope to Help Everyone
People consider Reirin Kou the “butterfly of the court” for her kind heart, resilient soul, and frail body. She gives her all in everything she does, despite her health. Everyone from the lowest servant to the Crown Prince himself dotes on her. Keigetsu Shu is her exact opposite. She is a Maiden like Reirin, but she possesses no talent, nor kindness to speak of. Her bad personality has earned her the moniker “rat of the court.” What she does have is magic powers and the cruel mind to use them.

Keigetsu used a spell at the same time she pushed Reirin off a tower to swap their bodies, making Keigetsu the beloved Maiden and Reirin the hated villainess framed for murder. She also claimed that “Keigetsu” stole “Reirin’s” diary to learn about her life, putting a second failsafe in place to prevent Reirin from exposing the truth. The first, naturally, was using magic to silence Reirin whenever she tried to explain the truth. All of this was unnecessary: Reirin wanted to live in a healthy and free body, and now she can. Keigetsu granted Reirin’s wish, and she got stuck with a sickly and frail body.
