It’s been a while since we got a tense reincarnation anime. A Tale of the Secret Saint (Tensei shita Daiseijo wa, Seijo de Aru Koto wo Hitakakusu) is one of those tragic series that makes you wonder what happened to the traitors who got the main character tortured and killed. It’s been a few centuries, but you hold out hope that they got what’s coming to them. The main character is a cute redhead with divine magical abilities, so let’s hope her NG+ goes well. She’s trying to hide who she really is this time. It’s the opposite of main character syndrome, really.

A Tale of the Secret Saint News, Cast, Staff
Fia will begin her quest as a knight (and definitely not as a Great Saint) on October 3rd, 2026. Studio Felix Film animates the anime adaptation, with Tomoe Makino ruling as director. Deko Akao writes the series, Satomi Kurita designs the characters, and Kenichiro Suehiro provides the music. Kaya performs the opening theme song “Flare of Soul,” and Utahime Dream All Stars perform the ending theme song “Stellar.”
The reborn saintess, her new friend, and a successor of sorts are as follows:
- Fia Ruud — Shion Wakayama (Henao Jazz from Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch from Mercury). Fia was once a Great Saint who now wishes to live as a knight.
- Zavilia — Shinnosuke Tokudome (Shio Ihei from Tokyo Ghoul:re 2nd Season). Zavilia is a legendary black dragon and Fia’s guardian.
- Charlotte — Miyuri Shimabukuro (Kiku Kamishirakawa from Yu-Gi-Oh! VRAINS). Charlotte is a kind Saint who lives a sheltered life.

A Tale of the Secret Saint and her Second Life
Hoo boy, this series starts out with a bang. Fia is first introduced with a dragon biting her half to death. Sets the stage for what’s to come next, doesn’t it? She remembers her previous life when she was the Great Saint who sealed the Demon King away. Her brothers betrayed her, and the Demon King’s right-hand man tortured her to death. Damn, that’s dark.
Her new dragon friend, the guy who sheepishly healed her and offered his services, seems like an attempt to swing things to a lighter tone. Ehhh, it’s not flying for me. Still, I’m curious to see more from the series, especially if it picks a lane. Are we going grimdark, or are we enjoying a magic fantasy adventure with a dragon pal? I’m also curious what happened to Fia’s old party, and I’ll be really disappointed if they survived into old age.

Fia always dreamed of becoming a knight. Born into a family of knights, she’s the least talented among them, but she still clutches to her hope and trains with everything she has. When the day comes for her to slay a small demon and prove her worth, she ends up face to face with a dragon instead! Her life flashes before her eyes when she sustains a mortal injury… and she suddenly remembers her former life, when she was a powerful Saint in a bygone era who defeated the Demon King. That life ended in pain because of who she was, so she fears becoming a Saint again. Now that the magic from her previous life has been rekindled, she may become a more powerful knight than she ever dreamed — if only she can survive long enough!
Touya released the original A Tale of the Secret Saint novel series on the user-generated website Shosetsuka ni Naro on January 6th, 2019. Chibi provided art for the light novel adaptation, which debuted on June 15th, 2019. Earth Star Entertainment published twelve volumes in the Earth Star Novel imprint. Mahito Aobe provided art for the manga adaptation, which debuted on December 19th, 2019. Earth Star Entertainment published thirteen volumes in Comic Earth Star.
Touya and Chibi released the spinoff light novel series A Tale of the Secret Saint Zero on July 15th, 2022. Earth Star Entertainment has published six volumes in the Earth Star Novel imprint. Shiina provided art for the manga adaptation, which debuted on October 19th, 2023. Earth Star Entertainment published five volumes in Comic Earth Star.
