Catgirls. Like the Loch Ness Monster, I know they’re not real, but I enjoy imagining that they could be real. Let’s imagine a parallel reality full of nekomimi (cat-eared) waifus with these Chainsmoker Cat cosplay collections.

Chainsmoker Cat Cosplay and Large Furry Feline Friends (With Real Fur)
The closest I’ve been to a lion was at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. A lion was lying on top of the exhibit’s glass tunnel, and I could walk under the big kitty and compare my pitifully small human hand next to its massive, deadly paw.
This encounter jarred my brain because I’ve lived most of my life in Africa and had two uncomfortably close encounters with lions in the wild.
Big Cat Genetics and Waifu Wishes
Before we continue, I think it’s important to acknowledge that if we really did have catgirls walking around, there’s a good chance they’d have a high dose of lion DNA. That scares the poop out of me.
Think about it in terms of relative mass. Hybrid cat people won’t draw their DNA from safe pet breeds. They’ll be more like wild cats: lynx, snow lion, mountain lion, leopard, snow leopard, that sort of thing.

There’s a high likelihood that if our fantasies became reality, we’d be dealing with lion girls with big teeth, sharp claws, and the ability to chase you down behind the wheel of a sports utility vehicle. I fear the snow lion girls most (because they’ll eat the ski bunnies).
Anyway, man-eater genetics were on my mind when I was watching Chainsmoker Cat (Yani Neko). It’s worth considering the reality before we accidentally recreate Beastars.
Weight Gain and Wildebeest
I was probably in elementary school when I had my first lion encounter. (I’m still waiting to encounter a catgirl.) We were driving in South Africa’s largest game reserve, the Kruger National Park, when it happened.
Calling the Kruger a safari park gives a skewed impression of what it is, because the reserve is massive. At 7,576 square miles (19,623 km2), you can spend a lot of time driving and searching for wildlife without seeing any of the Big Five. The Big Five include elephants, Cape (or African) buffalo, rhinoceros, leopard, and our favorite murder kitty: the lion.
I doubt we’d seen much that day until we saw a pride of lions bring down a wildebeest. You’ve seen them in The Lion King. The funny-looking thing with dark fur, thin legs, and weird horns.
Do these Chainsmoker Cat cosplay galleries leave you with a deep longing? Do you need more catgirls? Have a look at these Nekopara cosplays.
Seeing a kill happen is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, so we pulled up for front-row seats to the prize banquet. We could hear every crunch, tear, and burp as they devoured the wildebeest, still kicking. It was a terrifying spectacle but ultimately humbling. I’ve never had the fortune of seeing the same thing again. And I probably never will.
Although I did come uncomfortably close to a lion again.
Meat and Greet
By far the most amazing way to experience the Kruger National Park is to walk through it.
Eight guests spend a few days walking through the veld, guided by a ranger and tracker. It’s you and the wild. If an angry buffalo charges, you find a tree and climb. One of our friends needed an airlift after a rare but deadly snake bite during the same type of hike. Don’t worry, he’s doing fine. The point is that this is Africa at its wildest, most natural, and most awe-inspiring.
We were hiking through a riverbed on the morning after a night filled with lion roars. The riverbed was wide and sandy with clumps of thick reed thickets. Cliffs of brown stone shaded the far side of the river, and the trees above the cliffs were thick with vultures. There was an ominous sense of foreboding, which is the fantasy writer’s way of saying “I was ready to pee my pants.”

The ranger, who was at the head of our line, pointed to a thicket and said something like, “He’s in there.” Next thing, he ran into the thicket, and a massive lion with a bloody muzzle ran out the opposite end.
Leo lost his breakfast (fresh zebra) to a group of inquisitive tourists for a bit. But there’s no such thing as a free breakfast, even in the heart of Africa. I paid for that breakfast with a paranoid fear of big cats lurking in reed groves. Something like the Jurassic Park “clever girl” meme, but with more fur.
Chainsmoker Cat Cosplay Fur and Fin(ished)
Seeing the scruffy lions lying bored in Las Vegas and getting so close to them broke something inside me. It was like touching a deactivated Cold War nuke left to rust in the Mohave Desert. All that power, neutralized.
Maybe that’s why I’ve been enjoying Chainsmoker Cat cosplay photos. Because smoking still kills.
Would you like to adopt a catgirl from J-List’s official catgirl refuge? Give headpats and sakana, receive ample moe feelings.
How about you? Have you ever gotten close to a wild animal before? Do you smoke? I’d love to hear a smoker’s opinion on Chainsmoker Cat. Tell us in the comments.
