Now That We Draw Brings Ecchi Rom-Com Vibes in January

I rarely say I’m excited for the upcoming year. But with the GOATed anime premiering in 2027, I’m eager for what’s coming! And now that the production committee behind Now That We Draw has released the anime’s newest trailer, my excitement is gushing! We don’t know exactly when Kakunaru Ue wa will premiere. But we do know it’s sometime in January.

Alongside the new trailer, Kakunaru Ue wa’s production committee revealed that Studio ROLL2 (Love Is Indivisible by Twins) will animate the series. They also announced that Shunsuke Ishikawa will animate Now That We Draw. Additional production staff for the anime includes:

Kakunaru Ue wa‘s lead duo, Ayumu Murase and Niina Miyamoto, will be voiced by Ayumu Murase and Sayumi Suzushiro.

Now That We Draw — Deets!

Yuuki Uehara has a lofty (but admirable) dream. The nerdy teenager wants to be a mangaka. He’s already written what he believes is SSR-level rom-com manga. He even designed the perfect heroine. His perfect girl is kawaii, aloof, deredere, demure, and most importantly, ignorant of the ways of love and lust! But with a glance, Uehara-kun’s editor dismisses his manga as idealist, banal, unimaginative slop.

This poses a dilemma for Uehara. He’s much too young to cope with a manuscript rejection the way adult writers do (Bourbon and hookers), so he has to raw-dog his failure. And that failure quickly morphs into depression. But that depression introduces him to the genki Niina Miyamoto. Like Uehara, Niina wants to be a mangaka. Her first attempt was also a decisive failure. But instead of getting depressed, Niina presents Uehara with a solution. Since they lack the experience to make the love they write about seem believable, they should pretend to date! After all, if they do couple-like things, they can create a more believable romance. But the two soon learn that there are some things you can’t fake…

Kyu Takahata (author) and Yuwji Kaba (illustrator) created Now That We Draw. Hakusensha’s Young Animal magazine has serialized the manga since its February 2023 debut. Its eighth volume will be released on September 29. Seven Seas Entertainment releases Now That We Draw in North America.
