Unmentionable Misunderstandings About Unmentionables, Mentioned

It all happened one Thursday night, when I was doing my laundry at a laundromat. Well, doing that and reading manga. It had been a busy two weeks, and I had three big bags of washing to do. Luckily, I was driving a friend’s pickup at the time, so I had loads of space for my unmentionables.

I was about to pull my clean things from the dryer when my neighbor walked in. My neighbor. The one who walks around with one ear glued to her phone. The one who’s always on the go. You never know who she’s shouting at (and she’s usually shouting). I think she’s a lawyer. Or an estate agent. Or one of those politicians fighting for tighter anime censorship.

Anyway, she took one look at me, and her face melted into that sort of puppy dog meets sexy cover girl face some women make when they’re asking men for a favor. My brain sounded the siren, but already her feminine kryptonite was robbing my logical-thinking unit of vital oxygen-rich red juice.

“Hey, hon,” (and women will always call you “hon” when they use the eyes and lips brain-melting combo), “I’ve got to dash to meet a friend. Could you grab my washing? It’s in dryer three.”

The Things We’d Do To LOVE-Ru

Well, of course, I said “yes.” My dad raised me to be a helpful, polite gentleman. (He didn’t raise a fool, that feature’s built in.) So, I hauled out her washing and my three bags of warm, dry laundry. Is it any wonder that events took a turn toward a rom-com plot and her washing got mixed in with mine? An innocent mistake.

She wasn’t impressed. Not when I pitched up at her door at seven in the morning to explain what had happened. But our other neighbors got a good laugh. I bet they never forgot the anime dork standing outside their uptight neighbor’s door, holding a pair of lace Brazilian briefs.
