From Rent-a-Girlfriend Cosplay to Rent-a-Porn-Star Apps
It goes like this: Clients would pay to date a porn star online. The concept was easy, appealing, and (my business associates and I thought) sure to make us the next Shuttleworth or Musk.

Let’s forget that prostitution is the oldest profession. Which I don’t think is true, because someone must have bartered a marmot on a stick for braised squirrel. Snacks trump getting in her slacks. Ha! Anyway, we figured we’d give geeky guys with plastic money the prestige of being able to say they dated Jenna Jameson or Tera Patrick. That’s unbeatable street cred.
And we knew plenty of porn stars.

But we did have a growing database of identifying photos, and we were nearly 100 percent sure we could recognize any of them if we met them on the street. Assuming we went out, which was rare even in the early 2000s, pre-COVID. And assuming our necks could tilt back enough for facial recognition.

So, our clients would register and pay to “date” the porn star of their choice. They’d “date” for a day, two, or maybe five days. (And those quotation marks surely wouldn’t haunt us later.) The completely virtual “date” did two things: it ensured a breakup and freed the porn star to go back to their regular dating on weekends.
And you couldn’t date someone again. That was our sneaky way to ensure repeat customers, keep the ladies working, and increase revenue. And the principle went hand in hand with bumping street cred. “I dated Savanna Samson and Silvia Saint” sounded far better than “I dated Stormy Daniels twice.” The second claim would make our valued clients sound like losers. Or worse. Doormats.
We’d force our clients, with our app, to date widely. This would also get the stars back into circulation again.
The Future of Date-a-Porn-Star
Well, that’s about all I can give away without a signed non-disclosure agreement. According to the minutes of our last meeting, we’re still in the data-collecting phase. A few more terabytes might do the trick.
But I think it’s still a great idea. After all, it worked for OnlyFans.
