It’s always a stellar day when I can announce the anime adaptation of an ecchi romance. And today is one of those days! Kyu Takahata and Yuwji Kaba’s ecchi rom-com manga, Kakunaru Ue wa (Now That We Draw), is getting an anime adaptation!
The production company for the upcoming anime released a visual, trailer, and staff/production information for the show. Studio ROLL2, known for their work on Love Is Indivisible by Twins (Koi wa Futago de Warikirenari), will handle the show’s adaptation. On the seiyuu side of things, Sayumi Suzushiro will voice Kakunaru’s lead heroine, Niina Miyamoto. Suzushiro-san is currently voicing Iroha Kohinata from Tomodachi no Imouto ga Ore ni dake Uzai.
Ayumu Murase, known for roles like Tristan Liones in Nanatsu no Taizai, is voicing the anime’s male lead, Yuuki Uehara.
Now That We Draw’s production team includes:
- Shunsuke Ishikawa as director
- Hiromi Nakagawa as the anime’s character design
- Deko Akao as the scriptwriter and series composer
Now That We Draw Deets!
Kyu Takahata writes the Kakunaru Ue wa manga, featuring illustrations by Yuwji Kaba. Hakusensha’s Young Animal has serialized Now That We Draw since February 24, 2023. The publisher has released five tankoubon volumes of the manga. Seven Seas Entertainment releases the English version of the manga in North America.

The Now That We Draw manga follows fledgling mangaka Yuuki Uehara, a weeb with a noble dream of creating the perfect rom-com manga. But after Yuu-kun creates what he believes is PEAK romance, his editor shoots him down, because his manga comes off as “trite” and “lacking realism.” Being the creative type, Yuuki takes his failure to heart and spirals into depression. But it’s that depression that places him in a fake relationship with the hottie gyaru, Niina Miyamoto. Niina, a rejected mangaka herself, believes that their fake relationship will allow them to develop their craft. But will it work?
