Hello, I Am a Witch Adds One More Ingredient to the Slow Burn
Rose, the secluded “Witch of the Lake,” supports herself by brewing special medicines from a cottage on a forest lake. Her quiet routine bubbles over when Harij — an aristocratic knight and her secret crush of four years — asks her to make a love potion. Rose takes up the potion brief, then expands the ingredient list, so each errand creates another meeting. A flawless plan! At this rate, the potion will require every herb in the kingdom.
Harij complicates matters by bringing food and genuine concern for Rose’s neglected everyday needs. Those small gestures fuel the warm hearth of Hello, I Am a Witch. Rose’s potion work gives the romance its fantasy setting, while each visit draws her and Harij closer.
The Casting and Production of a Romantic Spell
Hello, I Am a Witch centers its cast on Rose and Harij’s smoldering romance, with supporting characters expanding the story beyond a cozy cottage in the middle of a lake.
- Rose (Mikako Komatsu) — The secluded “Witch of the Lake,” a gifted potion-maker whose four-year crush turns one lovesick draft into an extended ingredient hunt.
- Harij (Youhei Azakami) — A strait-laced aristocratic royal guard whose regular visits bring warmth to Rose’s secluded life.
- Tien (Hiro Shimono) — A merchant who regularly visits the Witch of the Lake to trade daily staples for Rose’s medicines.
- Billaura (Akira Sekine) — A princess of the Kingdom of Marjan who has known Harij since childhood and regards him as an older brother.
The cast’s chemistry rests on subtle shifts in tone and facial expressions, so the adaptation needs production choices that give those moments room to breathe. The staff behind Hello, I Am a Witch includes:
- Director: Keizou Kusakawa
- Series composition: Wataru Watari
- Character design: Masakazu Ishikawa
- Animation production: Diomedea
- Original story: Eiko Mutsuhana
- Original character art: vient
- Manga adaptation: Kamada
- Opening theme: “Kanawanai,” by Centimillimental
- Ending theme: “Mada Uso ni wa Naranai” by Rainy.
Keizou Kusakawa previously directed Parallel World Pharmacy, giving him experience with fantasy storytelling built around medicinal craft. Diomedea also produced The Saint’s Magic Power Is Omnipotent, a useful studio connection for viewers who enjoy patient fantasy romance. Those credits suit a story that depends on atmosphere and restrained character acting.
