If you take away anything from Makina-san a Love Bot?!, episode 10 — it’s that steadily consuming BL and non-con corrodes the brain.
Much like you shouldn’t give incels a podcast, you shouldn’t let impressionable teenage girls spend too much time on BL and non-con. But that’s a topic to be discussed later. For now, it is with utmost joy that I herald the arrival of a proper war (love?) bot! Well, kind of, the “proper” description doesn’t quite fit our busty combat droid. To put it nicely, the show’s newest character has Darkness vibes. Will those vibes affect Eita and his harem? Only manga readers and the Lord know the answer to that. For now, a refresher and random thoughts.
Makina-san a Love Bot?! — Artificial Intelligence Lacks Intelligence
Makina-san’s leg is like the pothole that adorns my street. An inordinate amount of time and effort has been devoted to fixing it, but no meaningful progress has been made.
So, to gather clues about where Makina comes from and how to fix her, Eita and his harem go to her former residence. But much like No Game No Life‘s second season, that apartment doesn’t exist. While you might suspect this is part of a devious plan to hide the truth, it’s not. This anime takes place in Japan, not the Western World. Japan rapidly and meticulously maintains its infrastructure; we can’t say that in the Americas. After failing to find Makina and Mimika’s former abode, the trio spends a family day at the levee instead.
Here is where my advice about avoiding BL and non-con doujins comes into play. Most people would see Eita, Mimika, and Makina enjoying themselves and go “Aww.” Mamimi, on the other hand, looks at the kawaii scene and immediately thinks about blackmail shags. Unfortunately, her BL-riddled mind can’t see any option besides hentai storylines. But this misunderstanding in Makina-san a Love Bot?!, episode 10 introduces the third robo-nee-san, and she’s a looker. Outing herself as a combat android, Anna becomes Mimika’s robot, and the two conspire to shove something up Eita’s bum.
This Is Where I Philosophize
So, say love bots and combat androids exist, and they follow the three laws of robotics … how can they do their job? Android Darkness is only effective in conventional warfare when she fights other androids. Even with Makina and Mimika, there’s a hiccup there. When a love bot learns secret information from someone and shares it, it could endanger that person. Given this, can a love bot or combat bot continue their mission?
How does Kashou come up with these deep philosophical conundrums from watching Makina-san a Love Bot?!, you ask? Well, I sleep an average of four hours.
Life-shortening insomnia aside — for an ecchi show, Kakushite! Makina-san!? likes to tease a deeper plot. But that’s a plot we’re not getting.
Makina-san a Love Bot?!, episode 10, more than its predecessors, felt heavily inclined toward conversation. It was also the episode where I did have to say, “You should have done that earlier.” Eita has been trying to help Makina for almost three months; that was plenty of time to check her old apartment. This is something I’d hold against a full-length show. But, if we’d compile all the aired Kakushite! Makina-san!! episodes together, we’d be around episode 3 or 5 (I’m not known for my math skills).
Makina-san a Love Bot?! — Hooray for Tomoyo!!
Tomoyo Takayanagi has been the VA that has impressed me the most this season. Not only do I gush over her performance as Makina, but everything she does as Oguri Cap is a 10/10. I was so enchanted by her voice that I checked out her other roles … I wasn’t prepared. Asteroid in Love and The Demon Girl Next Door are some of my favorite shows, and Tomoyo voices Mira and Mikan … bruh. I’ve always believed that there’s skill and talent. Anyone can gain skills.
If you have the time to devote yourself to learning and mastering something, you will become skilled at it. However, that doesn’t mean you’ll succeed at/master something. Like it or not, at the end of the day there’s something in you that no one else has (be it charisma, charm, or some other thing), that’s your talent. Takayanagi-san has skill and talent, and her performances show that. Kudos to Studio BloomZ and the production cast for Makina-san a Love Bot?! for giving Tomoyo the lead role.
