From the creator of Hayate the Combat Butler comes Fly Me to the Moon, a romantic comedy about newlyweds who hardly know each other!
On March 4th, it was revealed via a new official website and social media posts that the manga series Tonikaku Kawaii (literally translated as Generally Cute) will get an anime adaptation this October under the new name Fly Me to the Moon. No further details were revealed, though they posted a key visual (seen above) revealing the anime designs of the two main characters.
The series started as a manga created by Kenjiro Hata in early 2018 when it began running in Weekly Shonen Sunday. It has nine volumes in print in Japan as of January 2020. In February 2020, Viz Media announced that it had licensed the series and would release it in English starting in the fall of 2020.
The story for Fly Me to the Moon follows a student named Nasa Yuzaki who is saved by a young woman on the day of his high school entrance exams. Falling in love with her instantly, Nasa asks the girl, Yuzaki Tsukasa, to be his girlfriend. She replies that she’ll only be his girlfriend if they get married, at which point they part ways… until Nasa’s 18th birthday when Yuzaki reappears with a marriage certificate. Thus begins their life together.
If you’re still not convinced to give this series a chance when it premieres in October, check out this promotional video for the manga which was released in conjunction with the second volume.
I really enjoyed author Hata’s previous long-running shonen harem, and it has been a good long while since I’ve seen a particularly well done romantic comedy with genuine relationship development, so I’m already looking forward to checking this series out. Be sure to stay tuned for more details to be posted as they are made available in the coming weeks and months!
