Skip and Loafer — New PV Reveals Premiere Date for Slice of Life Anime

A typical slice-of-life anime offers a welcome break when action/adventure and isekai series swarm the airwaves. Any old port in a storm, you know? A simple anime about a country girl moving to the city and finding new friends at school is just what the doctor ordered. Let’s watch this smart girl try very hard to understand social cues when Skip and Loafer Season 2 comes to a small screen near you.

Mitsuki and Sousuke return to school sometime in April 2027. Studio P.A. Works will animate the anime adaptation, with Kotomi Deai working as director and writer. Yoko Yonaiyama also writes, Manami Umeshita designed the characters, and Takatsugu Wakabayashi and Michiru provide the pleasant anime music.

Three of our skipping and loafering students are as follows:

Mitsumi Iwakura — Tomoyo Kurosawa (Edel from Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End). Mitsuki is a smart yet clumsy girl from Ishikawa Prefecture.
Sousuke Shima — Akinori Egoshi (Yashichi from That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime). Sousuke is a popular guy who tries to get out of actually attending class.
Mika Egashira — Yuka Terasaki (Luca from Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D’s). Mika is one of Mitsumi’s new, caring friends.

Skip and Loafer from the Country to the City

For readers and watchers keeping track at home, Season 1 adapted manga volumes 1 through 4, ending on chapter 23. If Season 2 picks up where Season 1 left off, it’ll continue on to volume 5, chapter 24. I wonder if those volumes explain what the title actually means. I guess Mitsuki wears a lot of loafers while skipping to and fro.

There’s nothing more heartwarming than seeing a girl far outside her element finding a new home among friends. Then you have the slacker popular guy who puts in an effort to help someone outside her comfort zone. These people improve one another and enjoy a happy school life. It’s just nice to see, when the alternative is just more edgy isekai action. I needed this calm, slow life anime to return.

Excellent student Iwakura Mitsumi has always dreamt about leaving her small town, going to a prestigious university, and making positive change in the world. But she’s so focused on reaching her goals that she’s not prepared for the very different (and overwhelming) city life that awaits her in a Tokyo high school. Luckily, she makes fast friends with Shima Sousuke, a handsome classmate who’s as laid-back as she is over-prepared. Can this naive country girl make it big in Tokyo with Sousuke by her side?

Misaki Takamatsu released the original Skip and Loafer manga series on August 25th, 2018. Kodansha has published thirteen volumes in Monthly Afternoon. Studio P.A. Works’ anime adaptation premiered on April 4th, 2023.
