0verflow has announced that the legendary School Days visual novel is getting a remastered release this year! Titled School Days Remaster, the remastered re-release will be an exclusive game for Windows 11. 0verflow has yet to announce the VNs’ release date but has hinted at a 2025 release. There has been no announcement on whether School Days Remaster will include an English menu and subtitles.
The announcement coincided with a collab café celebrating its twentieth anniversary. Currently ongoing, the CollaPro Café Bar White and CrossLoad event runs until Sunday, June 15. Various franchise menu items will be available during the collab. Hopefully, someone includes a leaking strawberry doughnut with a knife stuck in it — that’s marketing genius.
School Days Deets
Published by 0verflow in 2005, School Days followed Makoto Itou and the love triangle that entangles him with his schoolmates: the alluring Kotonoha Katsura and the impish Sekai Saionji. In the fully animated visual novel, you assume the role of Makoto and guide him through his increasingly complicated dating life. Stuck between the girl he loves, the girl that loves him, and many other waifus — your choices kept Makoto and other characters from meeting the axe. School Days Remaster completely overhauls the graphics of the original visual novel and adds several additional uncensored scenes.
Mathers Numakichi (then the 0verflow president) created and wrote the LN.
School Days boasts several other visual novels: Summer Days, Shiny Days, Island Days, and Cross Days. The franchise also received manga and novel adaptations, but the most infamous is the TNK-produced anime adaptation. Many a weeb will foam at the mouth when they see or hear about Makoto. But I’m a man of culture; some would say I’m enlightened — I understand Makoto is a man who enjoys variety. Variety is what makes life worth living. #Don’tKnockNTRTilYouTryIt.
But as Peter-senpai pointed out in this article, the hate Makoto gets stems from condensing the original story to fit a TV anime format. The relationships in the visual novel are far more humanizing.
School Days Remaster — We’re Excited!
Did you know we helped translate the original VN when JAST USA released a stateside version? School Days HQ and the Shiny Days Download Edition are available on the J-List store!
When I heard that we’d be getting more School Days, I saw the sun shine brightly for the first time in months. That’s not to say everyone shared my joy. I’ve seen people react by claiming it’s the worst thing to happen in 2025. Unironically, that isn’t even hyperbole — some people would rather have a truck filled with drones bomb their backyard than see Makoto in 4K. But much like the fourth season of Rent-a-Girlfriend, life gives us what we need, not what we want. We need a spicy love triangle — the kind that School Days Remaster will deliver.
Speaking of things that the wider otaku community doesn’t want, are you going to watch Hitozuma no Kuchibiru wa Kan Chuuhai no Aji ga Shite this coming season? No one dies here, but it brings the NTR! Don’t let anyone tell you otherwise — NTR without any comeuppance is the best NTR. Crunchyroll and Anime Onegai stream the School Days anime.
