We rarely see what happens to the boss after the Hero claims victory. Good Bye Dragon Life Sayonara Ryusei, Konnichiwa Jinsei) shows what happens to a godlike dragon after the Hero slays him. It’s a nice change of pace from the Hero getting the “reborn to live a slow life” trope we’ve been getting. We’ll see how the eternal dragon does with his second chance when this anime series premieres sometime this year. We can enjoy the new trailer until then.
Hiroaki Nagashima posted the original Good Bye Dragon Life novel to the user-generated website Shosetsuka ni Naro on January 20th, 2013. AlphaPolis obtained the publishing rights and hired the artist Kisuke Ichimaru to adapt the series to a light novel format. 24 volumes have been published since this new run began on April 8th, 2015.
Our reincarnated dragon and his new lamia friend are as follows:
- Dolan — Shunsuke Takeuchi (Urogi from Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba). An almighty dragon whom even the gods feared. He allowed the Hero to end his life, not expecting that he would be reborn as a human.
- Celina — Hitomi Sekine (Mano Sakuragi from The iDOLM@STER Shiny Colors). A lamia girl who wants to find a partner. She has difficulty interacting with humans because of her snake half.

Good Bye Dragon Life is a tale of death and rebirth. The oldest and most powerful dragon, an entity that even the gods themselves feared, became a target for the chosen Hero and his companions. It seems he lived too long, grew too powerful, and had outlived his usefulness to the humans. So it was that the last elder dragon was slain under a beautiful moon. However, his story did not end there. He was soon reborn as a human named Dolan.
Dolan began to live his life as a regular human in the countryside. He was surrounded by family and friends who loved him dearly. He, in turn, came to love him and his new home. His adventure took off when he met Celina, a lamia seeking a romantic partner. He saved her from danger, and the two struck up a friendship. Who needs a slow life when a cute lamia girl appears in front of your face?
