Not all isekai protagonists are equal. Some have it worse than others; it’s true. Kosuke falls in the middle: not too bad, but not too great, either. He has somehow ended up in the world of an eroge as the harem protagonist’s joke of a sidekick, doomed to irrelevance at the game’s conclusion. We’ll see him rewrite his story when the ecchi anime adaptation of Magical Explorer: Reborn as a Side Character in a Fantasy Dating Sim (Magical★Explorer: Eroge no Yujin-Chara ni Tensei shita kedo, Game Chishiki Tsukatte Jiyu ni Ikiru) premieres sometime in Fall 2026.
Iris released the original Magical Explorer novel on the user-generated website Shosetsuka ni Naro on February 26th, 2018. Noboru Kannatsuki provided the art for the light novel adaptation, which debuted on November 1st, 2019. Kadokawa Shoten has published thirteen volumes under the Kadokawa Sneaker Bunko imprint. Yukari Higa provided the art for the manga adaptation, which debuted on August 20th, 2020. Kadokawa Shoten published three volumes in Young Ace Up.
Magical Explorer Cast
Our new isekai protagonist and two of his potential waifus are as follows:
- Kosuke Takioto — Nobunaga Shimazaki (Mahito from Jujutsu Kaisen). Kosuke was once a Japanese salaryman who enjoyed playing eroge.
- Ludivine “Ludie” Marie-Ange De La Tréfle — Ai Kakuma (Eris Boreas Greyrat from Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation). Ludie is the second princess of the elf kingdom and one of the main heroines of the eroge Magiex.
- Yukine Mizumori — Saori Onishi (Yuki Sumi from Oshi no Ko). Yukine is a master swordswoman and one of the main heroines of Magiex.
White Fox will animate the anime adaptation, which has an official website and Twitter (X) account to promote Magical Explorer. You can find more information about the series and the key visuals at those sites.
The Magical Explorer Finds the Harem Route
Kosuke Takioto was once just an average Japanese salaryman who took eroge very seriously. His newest favorite eroge, Magiex, consumed weeks of his life to 100 percent the game and all routes. He suddenly found himself in Wakaku, the main setting of that game, which could have been a dream come true. However, Kosuke is the harem protagonist’s joke sidekick, and the party kicks him out halfway through the game when more useful characters unlock.
His fate progressively worsens at the end of the game, and this Japanese salaryman isekai protagonist isn’t having it. Kosuke intends to use his knowledge of the story and game mechanics to escape from under the eroge protagonist’s shadow. Fortunately for him, the story deviates right away when the magic academy’s lovely headmistress invites him to live with her and her daughter. Two other heroines soon join them, who are eager to help Kosuke become stronger.
