We’re competent humans. We can make coffee, turn on a computer to produce work, tie our shoelaces, and turn an income into a steady stream of plastic waifus. But do you have the quick reflexes to dodge a bullet storm and beat the competition to win the Touhou World Cup? Let’s celebrate the global Touhou World Cup with Touhou Project cosplay creations.

Touhou Project Cosplay, Music, Fan Fiction, and… Games
Japanese culture is a big enough beast that you might have heard the words “Touhou Project” and have no clue what the franchise is all about. I was there. I’ve seen the Fumos (plush Touhou Project dolls) but knew nothing of the massive bullet-hell gaming juggernaut that inspired their creation.

What impresses me most about Touhou Project, as a newbie, is the fan-fueled nature of its fandom. Much like how the Open Game License birthed a massive library of fan-created Dungeons & Dragons content, creator Jun’ya “ZUN” Ōta’s loose licensing gave fans the freedom to create content in the Touhou Project world. And the by-fans, for-fans ethos is exactly why we’ve got a Touhou World Cup.
The 2026 Touhou World Cup
Created by Chinese fans in 2020, the Touhou World Cup provides a global platform for the best of the best danmaku (bullet curtain) players to show off and test their skills. The Touhou World Cup is an online event. It now supports Japanese, Chinese, Spanish, and English for the global Touhou Project community.

You can find the English Touhou World Cup broadcasts on Twitch. The tournament schedule is here.
Are you a Touhou Project player? Which was your first game? How many Fumos do you own? Or is this the first time you’ve poked the giant that is Touhou Project? Let us know in the comments. And let us know which Touhou Project cosplay is your favorite.
