Wash Your Cares Away with Slice-of-Life Anime — Wash It All Away (Kirei ni Shite Moraemasu ka)

Are you craving a little romance in your life? A touch of mystery? How about excruciatingly detailed lessons in commercial laundry techniques? Eh? Not so sure about that last one, huh? I bet you wouldn’t mind if those stain removal steps came from a cute, busty girl who loves steamy chats in the public bathhouse. These are all the elements in the new winter season anime, Wash It All Away (Kirei ni Shite Moraemasu ka). Let’s explore why you should watch this show!

Great news! To celebrate all the awesome new doujin titles J-List has gotten in stock after the recent C107 Comiket doujinshi event, we’re having a flash doujinshi sale! Through January 14, get 15% off automatically on all shipping-from-Japan doujin titles. Start browsing here!

One of my favorite aspects of anime is how a story can focus on the fine details of a hobby, sport, or job as narrative themes unfold. But have you ever wondered how your local dry cleaner removes those red wine stains from your white dress shirt? I’ve watched many “procedurals” anime, usually in the sports genre, but also cooking, fishing, and breaking rocks with a thicc yuri geologist. Now I can tick off the “laundry service” box in my growing list of slice-of-life and cute-girls-do-cute-things subgenres. Is cleaning that big of a deal for Wash It All Away? For the main character, Wakana Kinme, it is.

Slice-of-Life in Atami City Means Bathhouse Fan Service

The setting for Wash It All Away (Kirei ni Shite Moraemasu ka — Will you clean this for me?) is Atami City, a real place in Japan. It is a seaside resort town famed for its hot springs, traditional inns, and beaches. You know what that means! We’ll see Wakana Kinme (Sayumi Suzushiro, a busy lady starring in four Winter 2026 anime — Eris no Seihai, 29-sai Dokushin Chuuken Boukensha no Nichijou, and Mayonaka Heart Tune in addition to Wash It All Away) in bathhouses, onsens, and in swimsuits. Plus, Atami’s hilly terrain means the avid runner will be toning her glutes and quads on every uphill and downhill climb.

Friendly Neighbors and Customers in Wash It All Away

The slice-of-life genre is about employing character development through relationships as springboards for exploring eternal truths and themes, with a few chuckles along the way. Kinme Cleaning, Wakana’s laundry service, is a neighborhood fixture, so we’ll see recurring characters and learn more about them. It also means we’ll see them all, even the grannies, at the local public bathhouse!

Wash It All Away Hints at Romance and Drama with a Hotel Heir

Wash It All Away only glancingly references Wakana’s primary character trait in its first episode: she has amnesia. However, the only memories she retains are of methods of cleaning clothes. Like a professional, an obsessed professional. The need to clean could stem from a past trauma (like Lady Macbeth in Macbeth: “Out, damned spot!”). However, Wash It All Away appears willing to take time laying the groundwork for Wakana’s past.

Some of her friends and business relations know about her amnesia, but the new characters she’ll meet don’t. “Show, Don’t Tell” is the rule for keeping a reader’s attention in fiction writing. The audience will discover the details of Wakana’s amnesia alongside the new characters.

Amnesia also highlights the theme of identity in Wash It All Away. As Wakana grows closer to her neighbors and friends, and potentially romantically with Kyuushou Ishimochi (the son of hotel owners), the specter of returning memories that could change her personality looms overhead. Would Wakana remain herself if she recalled her past? Trauma, drama, dilemma!

Crazy Cleaning Lady — Wash It All Away!

Let’s talk about obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). The compulsion to attack any stain, even imaginary ones, is a well-documented behavior for some OCD sufferers. For example, USA Network broadcast a long-running show about a private detective with OCD (Monk 2002-2009), and the titular character displayed several compulsive symptoms.

In Wash It All Away, Wakana feels the compulsion to fix or repair clothing defects so strongly that she’ll forget to ask customers whether they want her to. Luckily, she runs a laundry service and can scratch her itch to clean whenever she wants. But in fiction, there are no coincidences. I’m curious about how Wakana’s amnesia connects to her compulsive cleaning.

Satisfy Your Store Clerk Fetish and Others

Do you like store clerks who wear aprons? Wash It All Away will be your weekly supply for this fetish. Ponytail connoisseurs will enjoy Wakana’s business mode look. And it wouldn’t surprise me if the anime makes naked girl-talk in the bathhouse a regular occurrence.

Do you need more fan service opportunities? How about a stylish wife who rides her folding Dahon bike all around the Atami neighborhood? That one could be just for me.

More Slice-of-Life Comedy Omake

Wash It All Away generously delivers laughs whenever Wakana enters OCD mode, unloading detailed laundry techniques. The anime helpfully switches art styles — chibi-deformed versions. They signal to the audience that we can skip to the punchline that Wakana is a crazy cleaning lady.

The first episode also included an omake (extra service) about the Kinme Cleaning building. Will the omake become a regular feature? I hope so, because these vignettes clearly present Wash It All Away as a relaxing “healing anime” (iyashikei) with tear-jerking moments in store.

Wash It All Away (Kirei ni Shite Moraemasu ka) streams on Crunchyroll in Japanese audio and multiple language subtitles.

Thanks for reading this post about a cleaning-obsessed amnesiac who loves flaunting her big boobs in hot springs. I mean, the slice-of-life anime Wash It All Away. Remember to thank your dry cleaning staff for all their hard work on your nasty stains. Will you let this anime wash all your cares away? Tell us in the comments!
