Japan sure does like to rank things, and the Japanese public came out in force for this poll to determine which anime theme song currently holds the title of “best song”.
On September 6th, on Japanese television network TV Asahi aired a program to rank the top anime theme songs of all time. Over 130,000 people voted. The results were pretty much all over the place, with classics from yesteryear mixing it up with newer hits from less than a decade ago.
Not shockingly, the reigning champion of anime theme songs belongs to Neon Genesis Evangelion’s Cruel Angel Thesis sung by Yoko Takahashi. Competition is fierce though. It looks as though, at some point in the not so distant future, it may be overtaken by newcomer Demon Slayer’s theme song Gurenge sung by LiSA.
Other interesting choices from the top ten include entries from Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, Attack on Titan, and A Certain Scientific Railgun.
