David Production is releasing a new anime series that promises to become another guaranteed hit. Their experience with JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure‘s high-speed superhuman action and Urusei Yatsura‘s often violent love has brought them to Firefly Wedding (Hotaru no Yomeiri), a tale about a sickly noblewoman who must get a dangerous assassin to save her by any means necessary. It’s like if Kenshin kept his hitokiri persona, and loved Kaoru more than he loved his job. Can she get him to set aside his psychotic tendencies long enough to save the day? Let’s find out.

Firefly Wedding News, Cast, Staff
The odd couple will be preparing for their nuptials on October 9th, 2026. Takahiro Kamei sits as the director, Yuko Kakihara wields the pen, Yukiko Aikei designs the characters, and Nogrid provides the emotive anime music.
The noblewoman, her new husband (?), and her childhood friend are as follows:
- Satoko Kirigaya — Lynn (Miyako Saito from Oshi no Ko). Satoko is a sickly noblewoman who yearns for freedom.
- Shinpei Goto — Koki Uchiyama (Taiki Himekawa from Oshi no Ko). Shinpei is an assassin who really enjoys his job.
- Kotaro Ogawa — Kent Ito (Michio Hazama from The Idolmaster SideM). Kotaro is the Kirigaya family’s servant and Satoko’s childhood friend.
David Production will animate the anime adaptation, which has an official website and Twitter (X) accounts promoting Firefly Wedding. You can find more information about the series and the key visuals at those sites.
The Firefly Wedding Between a Noblewoman and an Assassin
This series is set during the Meiji era, which is another reason I made the Rurouni Kenshin reference earlier. We don’t get another samurai romance series anymore, do we? The PV does a fine job of setting the stage for a new series in the genre that Kenshin has an undisputed rule over. It also does a fine job of showing just how crazy Shinpei is. That’s the smile of a villain in any other series.
The studio definitely understood the material. They summed up Satoko and Shinpei’s relationship in one minute. The firefly scene they snuck in there was equally well done. That’s where a lot of the budget went, didn’t it? There was a lot of discussion about the manga series among people who read it, and I trust that discussion will be reignited now that the anime is coming out soon.

On the surface, Satoko has it all — she’s beautiful, the daughter of a nobleman, and at a prime age for marriage. Unfortunately, she is also quite ill and only has a short time left to live. Before she can secure a marriage that will redeem her worth in her family’s eyes, she finds herself the target of the mysterious assassin Shinpei, and her plans are put in jeopardy. In order to save herself, she makes a desperate proposal — of marriage! When it comes to love, however, Shinpei takes “until death do we part” seriously.
Oreco Tachibana released the original Firefly Wedding manga series on January 1st, 2023. Shogakukan published twelve volumes in MangaONE and Ura Sunday.
