Yesterday I talked about how Yuuna and the Haunted Hot Springs will get a 17-page one-shot in this summer’s Jump Giga issue. But as some of you noticed (and spammed my X inbox about), there was another ecchi manga in that advertisement. And that ecchi manga was also getting a one-shot manga years after its conclusion. The ecchi opus that is To Love Ru is also getting a 25-page one-shot manga to celebrate its 20th anniversary.
Jump Giga will release its summer issue on August 17.
I’ve never watched or read To Love Ru. I tend to dislike older animation styles. And by older, I mean most things pre-2008. Either way, most teenage fans of To Love Ru weren’t alive when the manga was being published. Most of the people who read the manga’s weekly chapters now have grandkids! Age is but a number — a number that reminds us we’re closer to the grave. The Ancient Magus’ Bride was the first seasonal anime I watched, and last week someone told me that was almost a decade ago. My youth and best years are behind me, and those “best years” were non-existent.

Manga Details
This isn’t the first time that To Love Ru has gotten a commemorative one-shot. The manga has received three post-publication one-shots. Weekly Shonen Jump released the first issue on April 27, 2019, to celebrate To Love Ru’s illustrator Kentaro Yabuki’s 20th year as a professional illustrator. Jump Square also released a To Love Ru Darkness one-shot on May 27, 2019, to celebrate Yabuki-san. Shonen Jump+ released a To Love Ru one-shot in January 2023.
Weekly Shonen Jump (Shueisha) published To Love Ru from April 2006 to August 2009. Shueisha initially compiled the series into 18 tankobon volumes but later released a 10-volume bunkoban edition. Jump Square serialized the manga’s sequel, To Love Ru Darkness, between October 2010 and March 2017. Shueisha once again initially compiled the manga into 18 volumes and later into 10 bunkoban volumes. Both manga were written by Saki Hasemi and illustrated by Kentaro Yabuki.
Seven Seas Entertainment releases the English versions of To Love Ru and To Love Ru Darkness in print and digital formats. The first is a two-in-one omnibus, and the second is in single volumes. Studio Xebec adapted both manga into four TV anime and several OVAs.

To Love Ru Synopsis
For most of his existence, Rito Yuuki’s life was the definition of “normal.” Despite being affable, the shy Rito, like most teenagers, couldn’t work up the courage to confess his feelings to the girl he was infatuated with. But one day a naked devil-tailed girl magically appeared in his bathroom and declared that she was going to marry him! Why? Well, she’s an alien princess who was being forced into a political marriage. So she absconded to Earth in hopes of avoiding her fate. But when a commander in her father’s army also appears in Rito’s house and hears about the princess alien’s new plans, he attacks Rito!
But since Rito is already in love, he tries to remedy the situation by telling the aliens that marriage is only possible between people who love each other. And that statement inadvertently traps him in the situation he was trying to escape.
