The light novel series, The Irregular at Magic High School (Mahouka Koukou no Rettousei) is to end after 12 years of publication. It was announced on Wednesday on the series’ official Twitter feed that the 32nd volume will be the last, and will ship out on September 10th.
Tsutomu Satou, the creator of the series, launched the series in 2008. It was originally published on the Shousetsuka ni Narou website. Kadokawa’s Dengeki Bunko light novel label began publishing the light novel series alongside Satou in July 2011, and has released the 31st volume on April 10th. Yen Press has been publishing the English translation of the series, and the 15th English volume was released on April 7th. The Irregular at Magic High School has accumulated 15 million copies of its volumes in print.
The novel series received a 26-episode television anime produced by Madhouse, which covered the first seven volumes of the light novel series and aired in April of 2014. The series also received an anime film, The Irregular at The Magic High School The Movie: The Girl Who Summons the Stars produced by 8Bit, which released in theaters in June 2017. The anime will be receiving a second season called The Irregular at Magic High School: Visitor Arc (Mahoka Koko no Rettosei: Raihoshi-hen), which will adapt volumes nine through eleven. The announcement stated it was previously slated for July 2020, but was delayed until October this year due to COVID-19.
