Usually, it’s pretty hard to predict whether or not an anime will get another season. Anime production companies don’t usually share the reasoning for why they do or don’t pursue more episodes of a particular anime, leaving fans scratching their heads when insanely popular anime never get a second season as obscure or unpopular series continue to thrive. Animation studio Nomad wasn’t shy about what needed to happen for their anime adaptation of Dropkick On My Devil! (Jashin-chan Dropkick) to get a second season, though.
In the middle of 2018, the studio revealed that a second season of the hyperviolent comedy anime would be greenlit if the DVD/Blu-ray sets of the series sold more than 2,000 units. It took a while to get there, but in January of 2019, it was confirmed that the series had met its goal and would be receiving a second season. With the April 2020 premiere of the series soon approaching us, new info on the opening song for the series has been shared via the official website for the anime.
According to the official website for Dropkick on My Devil!, the new opening song for season two will be titled “Toki Toshite Violence” (Violence on Occasion). It’s set to be performed by the singer halca, who previously performed ending theme songs for anime series like Kaguya-sama: Love is War, Wotakoi: Love is Hard for Otaku, and the upcoming second season of We Never Learn: BOKUBEN.
Fans in Japan will be able to catch Dropkick on My Devil! on a variety of channels when the show returns in April. It’s set to premiere on Tokyo MX, Hokkaido Cultural Broadcasting Co., Ltd., RNC, Gunma TV, Tochigi TV, Chiba TV, Sun TV, Television Nagasaki, BS Fuji, AT-X, and other networks. Amazon Prime Video will also stream the entire series at once in advance of the television premiere.
This isn’t the only new bit of Dropkick on my Devil! animation that’s coming our way. A crowdfunded “Chitose” bonus episode of the anime is also set to release on Blu-Ray Disc in Japan this July. The episode is named as such because it was funded by the Chitose hometown tax program. The episode features the new character Lierre, head of the Pekora and other angels, who descends to Earth in the form of a little girl for a certain objective.
A description of Dropkick on My Devil!, according to MAL:
The demon Jashin-chan has been summoned to Earth by Yurine Hanazono, a girl with a knack for the occult. Unfortunately, Yurine does not actually know how to send Jashin-chan back to Hell. Now stuck on Earth, she must live at Yurine’s apartment as her familiar.
The only way for Jashin-chan to return would be to kill her summoner, but this is easier said than done for the incompetent demon. Since Jashin-chan is immortal and can regenerate her body, Yurine does not hold back in attacking her with a range of weapons, punishing her in gruesome manners for her evil schemes. Jashin-chan is also often visited by her demon friends: the kindhearted Gorgon Medusa and the energetic minotaur Minosu, who seem much more well-behaved in contrast, and disapprove of her plans to kill Yurine.
Jashin-chan Dropkick is a comedy focusing on these two reluctant roommates and their bizarre antics as they get by with their cat-and-mouse relationship.
