Kodansha USA releases the Rent-A-Girlfriend manga in English. The manga has inspired a spin-off manga, Rent-A-Girlfriend-(Really Shy!)-Girlfriend, a video game, a visual novel, an anthology, and a live-action TV drama.
Kanojo, Okarishimasu Synopsis
Unlike most men, when the girl that Kazuya Kinoshita loved dumps him, he forsakes alcoholism and younger women. Instead, the college student settles on a “rental girlfriend” to fill the void in his heart. And his first compensated date was all he ever dreamed of. But for some reason, that perfection pissed him off, so he left a negative review for his rental girlfriend, the kawaii Chizuru Mizuhara. That act prompted Chizuru to berate Kazuya when they next met. However, how could the two have expected that the altercation would put them in a situation where they’d need to keep up appearances and pretend to be an actual couple? How could they have known that lie would be the beginning of real affection?
Crunchyroll will stream the fifth season of Rent-A-Girlfriend.
Why I Love Rent-A-Girlfriend!
Few harem anime/manga are as successful and hated as Rent-A-Girlfriend. I can’t understand why. Every time this franchise gets something new, the comment section fills up with variations of “I can’t believe this garbage got a new X.” Well, like it or not, the Rent-A-Girlfriend manga has over 15 million copies in circulation. I love this anime — it’s one of my favorites. And the reason why I love it so much is its honesty. You usually don’t find anime that show that love can happen between an SRR-level waifu like Chizuru and a meek dude like Kazuya. To quote the Glam Metal band Tesla, “waiting for you, is this love made just for two.” Kanokari cheers that truth like few others. I believe people dislike it for its honesty.
I know people will disagree with that statement, but you can’t deny that even war criminals find love. Whoever told you that you need to be a good person to attract bishoujo waifus lied to you. People will care for you as long as they see value in you, and Chizuru and the Kanokari girls see value in Kazuya. Love doesn’t care who or what you are. It’s going to find you. If you don’t like that, buy this doujin to tell me off.
