We’re on a roll with these full-life isekai anime series, especially when they have older vampire waifus! Our new protagonist got saddled with a distant “father” who cares little for her. However, she does have a kind (and hot) mother with a sharp wit. Their living conditions could do with some improvement, though. The vampiric protagonist of Mercedes and the Waning Moon: The Dungeoneering Feats of a Discarded Vampire Aristocrat (Kaketa Tsuki no Mercedes ~Kyuuketsuki no Kizoku ni Tensei Shitakedo Sute Rare Sounanode Dungeon o Seiha Suru~) has set her sights on a brighter life…relatively speaking. Sunlight still harms her kind.

Mercedes and the Waning Moon News, Cast, Staff
The titular character, her mother, and one of her friends are as follows:
- Mercedes Grunewald — Anna Nagase (Boxers, Isabella from Cyberpunk: Edgerunners). Mercedes is a young vampire reincarnator.
- Ryudia Grunewald — Ai Kayano (Shiro from No Game No Life). Ryudia is Mercedes’s loving mother.
- Benkei — Kenta Miyake (Tamagami Number Three from Dragon Ball Daima). Benkei is the high-level ogre Mercedes bested in combat.
Mercedes will begin her next life in the moonlight sometime in January 2027. Studio Teddy is producing the anime adaptation, with Kunihisa Sugishima directing. Jun Kumagai writes the series, Nami Shoyama designs the characters, and R.O.N and Shuhei Mutsuki provide the music.
Mercedes and the Waning Moon has an official website and a Twitter (X) account with more information and the key visuals.

We have, in my opinion, quite a unique dark fantasy isekai on our hands. An unnamed Japanese woman died with deep regrets, having done nothing to instill pride in her life. She gazed at the moon and passed away, only to awaken as a vampire in another world. Mercedes is a noblewoman…kind of. Her father is important, but he doesn’t care about them. Thankfully, her hot mother loves her. She doesn’t show up as much as I’d like. Vampire MILFs are important, dang it! We have so few of them!
What sets this series apart is that Mercedes picks at the very concept of isekai. She wonders about the similarities between her world and this one and goes after the truth. I like that she doesn’t like drinking blood despite being a vampire. If she has a super form that turns her into a super vampire waifu when she drinks blood, it’s a 10/10 series. That aside, I’m looking forward to seeing what she finds during her journey and how she gets along with her distant father. Also, Ryudia needs more screen time. I said it twice; I mean it.
A Closer Look at Mercedes and the Waning Moon
Mercedes and the Waning Moon novel summary:
Reincarnated as a vampire to a noble father and his shunned concubine, Mercedes Grunewald has always known that one day, her father will choose an heir that isn’t her. But what will become of her family when that time comes? Her mother has no skills, their maid is old, and Mercedes is but a small child. How will they survive in the world on their own?
Luckily, dungeon crawling is a job that anyone can do—even a child. To provide for her family, Mercedes begins training at the age of a kindergartener, and because she’s from a nation of vampires, she fortunately has the potential to become strong. In her past life, she died unfulfilled, but that won’t be her fate this time. In the dungeons, she’s determined to find something that will make her moon full.
Firehead released the original Mercedes and the Waning Moon novel series on the user-generated website Shosetsuka ni Naro on October 1st, 2018.
