I didn’t think it would happen, but we’re getting a Destiny Unchain Online: How I Became the Crimson Devil (Destiny Unchain Online: Kyuketsuki Shojo to Natte, Yagate “Aka no Maou” to Yobareru You ni Narimashita) anime adaptation! The series is great, but it’s a rare VRMMORPG series where dying in-game doesn’t mean actually dying. It’s not like Sword Art Online or Devils’ Crest, and it’s a breath of fresh air. Also, it’s a vampiric, gender-swapped waifu protagonist. Buckle up, this is a good one. RPG setting, no edgelord dark themes, and gender-swapped girls.
J-List has not one, but two new offers for you! First, we’re running an 18% sale on all books and magazines, including all hentai manga and doujinshi from Japan, and all sexy JAV photo books. Then, in order to combat the rise of No Nut November, we’re giving you a rare $40 coupon off of $200 or more in awesome onaholes, ero lotion and more. Two ways to save with J-List! Both sales end November 11th.
Destiny Unchain Online News, Cast, Staff
The gender-swapped protagonist is as follows:
- Kou Mitsuki — Ikumi Hasegawa (Ciel from Tsukihime). Kou is a hardcore gamer with very interesting parents.
Kou will begin his new game adventure sometime in 2027. Studio Voil is producing the anime adaptation, with Koichi Hatsumi directing and Seiko Takagi writing. Masashi Kudo designs the characters, and Yuki Hayashi, Yuki Furuhashi, and Hayato provide the music.
Destiny Unchain Online has an official website and a Twitter (X) account with more information about the series and the key visuals.
Becoming the Strongest Player in Destiny Unchain Online
Kou is an avid gamer who absolutely dominates in PvP battles. What’s unique is how gamers connect to the series: AI-powered collars that link their minds to the game. Kou’s AI actively chides him for gaming too much. His father, Sora, develops these games and recruits him to test a brand-new game. Sora has Kou test Destiny Unchain Online in a large medical capsule.
If that seems odd, it’s just one of the many questions the series will leave you asking. You’ll get caught up in Kou’s adventure and forget those questions for a bit until they come up again. I brought up Sword Art Online earlier, but it feels closer to .hack than that, which I really like. The digital space seems more alive than it should, the mysterious developers are too mysterious, and the main character is a gender-swap. I’m eager to see how this adaptation plays out and how the anime addresses those mysteries.
