Anime and manga series about creating anime and manga are rare treats. Few series get so meta. The rare treats are those series full of cute girls doing cute things. We have one such series about a cute mangaka having strange ideas about her older female editor. That older female editor is equally self-conscious when it comes to working with the mangaka. We’ll see how well these two work together when A Mangaka’s Weirdly Wonderful Workplace (Egao no Taenai Shokuba Desu) premieres sometime in October 2025.
Kuzushiro released the original A Mangaka’s Weirdly Wonderful Workplace manga series on May 18th, 2019. Kodansha has since published twelve volumes in Comic Days.
A Mangaka’s Weirdly Wonderful Workplace Cast
The cute and imaginative mangaka, her cool beauty editor, and her infinitely patient assistant are as follows:
- Nana Futami — Yuko Natsuyoshi (Cheval Grand from Uma Musume: Pretty Derby). A diligent mangaka with fun delusions about her editor.
- Kaede Sato — Sora Amamiya (Illustrious from Azur Lane). A hard-working editor who gives Nana as much attention as she does to her more successful mangaka.
- Mizuki Hazama — Miku Ito (Frenika from Sword Art Online: Alicization). Nana’s incredibly talented and patient assistant.

A Mangaka’s Weirdly Wonderful Workplace is a Place Where Cute Girls Smile
Nana Futami is an up-and-coming mangaka. Her shogi-themed manga has proven popular with her readers. Her editor, Kaede Sato, and her assistant, Mizuki Hazama, provide all the help and support she needs to succeed. Nana’s only flaws come in the form of self-doubt, social anxiety, and the strange delusions she has about her editor. This so-called “occupational illness” gives her lewd thoughts about Kaede.
Kaede is not without her own eccentricities. She seems cool and stoic while she dotes on and favors Nana. Mizuki has always longed to become a mangaka in her own right. Her one-shot panels go viral on Twitter, and she was offered serialization, but she turned it down. Her perceived lack of storytelling skill and the enjoyment she feels working with Nana keep her going. A second assistant will make Nana’s work even more interesting.
