Production I.G has set out to finish what they started. The sports anime series Haikyu!! is going to settle their last matches in the two Haikyu!! Final movies. The first movie, titled Haikyu!! the Movie: Decisive Battle at the Garbage Dump (Gekijoban Haikyu!! Gomi Suteba no Kessen) is set to release on February 16, 2024. We have a trailer to keep us occupied until then.
Haruichi Furudate wrote and illustrated Haikyu!! from February 20th, 2012 to July 20th, 2020. Shueisha has released all 45 volumes in Weekly Shonen Jump.
Karasuno High School has some star players on its volleyball team, such as:
- Shoyo Hinata — Ayumu Murase (Kotetsu in Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba). A short but athletic volleyball fanatic. Tenma Udai the “Small Giant” inspired him to pursue the sport.
- Yu Nishinoya — Nobuhiko Okamoto (Katsuki Bakugo in My Hero Academia). Karasuno High School’s team libero. He’s even shorter than Shoyo, but he’s a true prodigy of the sport. His signature technique is “Rolling Thunder.”
- Kenma Kozume — Yuki Kaji (Tobimaro Mizunokoji in Urusei Yatsura). Karasuno High School team’s setter. Despite his introverted nature, he is widely seen as the team’s backbone.
Production I.G has maintained a home page and a Twitter page to promote Haikyu!!. Additional series information, and bonuses such as the key visuals below, can be found there.
Production I.G Takes the Court
Production I.G was founded on December 15th, 1987 by producers Mitsuhisa Ishikawa and Takayuki Goto. The “I.G” part of their studio name is taken from the first letters of their last names, Ishikawa and Goto. During a lecture on March 24th, 2006, Ishikawa gave another meaning to I.G, suggesting that it stood for itsumo (always) and genki (happy).
Production I.G’s first project was Zillion, when the studio’s name was I.G Tatsunoko. The studio is probably most known for its work on Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex. That series is most known for its powerful and brilliant waifu Motoko Kusanagi.
Haikyu!!‘s first anime ran between April 6th, 2014 and December 19th, 2020, in a total of 85 episodes, and five OVAs.
The New Small Giant of Karasuno High School
Haikyu!! is all about the great sport of volleyball. Shoyo Hinata is inspired to pursue the game after watching a shorter player known as the “Small Giant of Karasuno” completely dominate the sport. He has little luck in junior high school, as he spends years as its sole member. Hinata manages to convince his friends to join the team in time for him to compete in a tournament. He unfortunately suffers defeat at the hands of Tobio Kageyama, a prodigy setter nicknamed ‘The King of the Court.’
Hinata and Kageyama’s rivalry is short-lived as they both graduate and gain entrance to Karasuno High School. They’re not the best of friends, but they become an unstoppable team by pushing one another to new heights. This is fortunate, as Karasuno’s volleyball team had diminished since the Small Giant graduated. They’ll need a team of true athletes with a love of the game to play at Small Giant’s level. Maybe they can ask Scott Sterling to join them. They would literally never lose a game again.
If you need some inspiration of your own to excel in volleyball, J-List can help. The Shoyo Hinata Palm Size G.E.M. Series Figure from Haikyu!! is now available for pre-order. Just sit him on a bench and imagine he’s giving you pointers.
