Almost a year ago, Funimation posted to their blog that they were teaming with studio J.C. Staff to produce a brand new original anime movie titled Sing a Bit of Harmony. While they provided us with plenty of crew details and a short promotional video, we didn’t have much more to go on besides that until Thursday, July 15th when brand new information including an official story synopsis was posted to the official Funimation blog.
According to the official synopsis, the main story centers on a high school student who is a loner named Satomi. Her life is changed forever, however, when a new transfer student named Shion joins their class and begins to serenade her in the middle of the classroom. It turns out that Shion is actually an AI that’s still in the testing phase who has the mission of bringing “happiness” to Satomi.
As Satomi and her friends (including an engineering geek named Toma) grow closer to Shion, a mysterious organization makes their presence known and gets the entire group of friends involved in a plot that none of them saw coming.
As for the cast and crew, the character list reads as (character names first):
Shion: Tao Tsuchiya
Satomi: Haruka Fukuhara
Toma: Asuka Kudo
Gotchan: Kazuyuki Okitsu
Aya: Mikako Komatsu
Thunder: Satoshi Hino
Mitsuko: Sayaka Oohara
Nomiyama: Kenji Hamada
Saijyo: Kenjiro Tsuda
The previously announced crew includes animation produced by J.C. Staff with Yasuhiro Hoshiura serving as both the writer and director. He’ll be working with Ichirou Ohkouchi as a co-screenwriter, Kanna Kii as character designer, and Hidekazu Shimamura as an animation director. The movie will hit Japanese theaters later this year with a global release set to follow at a still undisclosed date in the future.d I personally can’t wait to check this one out!
