Conquering the galaxy looks easier than buying a house. That’s how I read the setup of this upcoming anime, anyway. Reborn as a Space Mercenary: I Woke Up Piloting the Strongest Starship! (Mezametara Saikyou Soubi to Uchuusen-mochi datta node, Ikkodate Mezashite Youhei to shite Jiyuu ni Ikitai) launches October 4, 2026. Its isekai hero pilots an overpowered spacecraft to earn enough money for one ordinary dream: a house and a backyard. Video-game wish fulfillment hits hyperspace, and every pirate bounty moves him closer to the galaxy’s most heavily defended backyard.

Reborn as a Space Mercenary Makes Space Combat a Day Job
Satou Takahiro (a 27-year-old company employee and avid gamer) awakens inside a science-fiction game world aboard a heavily armed ship resembling the craft he used as a player. Calling himself Hiro, he enters the mercenary trade. His game knowledge helps him hunt pirates across the colonies and earn serious credits. His starship turns those jobs into volleys of lasers and missiles. Each payout also brings him closer to his house-and-backyard dream, with his favorite carbonated drink adding a recurring bit of practical comedy.
Summoning an Isekai-Tested Crew to Outer Space
The cast brings together performers with otherworldly anime experience. Several have already shared a fantasy battlefield, giving Hiro’s new crew in Reborn as a Space Mercenary a helpful head start on party chemistry.
- Makoto Furukawa as Hiro
- Konomi Inagaki as Mimi
- Anna Nagase as Elma
- Haruka Shiraishi as Serena Holz
- Kana Ueda as Shouko
- Saori Oonishi as Mei
Furukawa, Inagaki, and Shiraishi appeared in The Red Ranger Becomes an Adventurer in Another World (2025), so part of this spacefaring party has isekai experience together. Apparently, reincarnation offers a generous frequent-traveler program.
Reborn as a Space Mercenary adapts Ryuuto’s light novels, illustrated by Tetsuhiro Nabeshima and published in English by Seven Seas. The production staff now has the job of carrying Hiro’s game-powered path toward homeownership from the page into an animated space adventure.

Moving the Game-Isekai Save File into Orbit
If you enjoy protagonists exploiting insider knowledge, Reborn as a Space Mercenary belongs to a fun branch of isekai. Overlord gives Momonga command of his maxed-out avatar and guild base. Mobseka (Trapped in a Dating Sim: The World of Otome Games Is Tough for Mobs) drops Leon into an otome game — a romance game aimed primarily at women — where his knowledge and advanced equipment disrupt the social hierarchy. Villainess stories use route knowledge for survival comedy, letting heroines trapped inside doomed antagonists rewrite their endings. Fans of those stories will find a welcome observation deck for Hiro’s spacefaring version of the formula.
In Reborn as a Space Mercenary, Hiro uses foreknowledge and a powerful ship to build the freedom he desires. The space-opera setting gives that familiar game-isekai formula a fresh engine. His house-and-backyard goal gives every laser blast a mortgage-adjacent purpose.
The gender ratio of the main cast puts harem-comedy hijinks on the radar. One dude, four women, and a “maidroid” create recurring fanservice punchlines between pirate hunts. So, expect plenty of relationship turbulence! Hiro set his sights on a house and a backyard, but the universe keeps expanding the mercenary’s personal space program.
Where to Watch Reborn as a Space Mercenary
Reborn as a Space Mercenary premieres October 4 at 9:30 p.m. JST on Tokyo MX. Crunchyroll streams the anime the same day outside Japan, China, Korea, and Mongolia. Crunchyroll has not yet announced the exact upload time or the English dub schedule.
Final trajectory: Reborn as a Space Mercenary looks ready to turn game-world competence into fast-paced space adventure with a relatable home-buying mission.
