All forms of entertainment exist to give us a break from the stresses of the real world, and one thing I like about anime is that it doesn’t hide the fact that it’s often a form of pure and unabashed escapism. Want to get away from the drudgery of your real life? Watch an anime about a normal person who gets sent to an isekai world where he becomes a hero and scores a raccoon girlfriend. Want more romance? Then check out this great harem anime in which every female is in love with you because you’re so trustworthy. If you are looking for the perfect balance of relaxing fantasy themes, fanservice, and comedy, then I recommend The Hidden Dungeon Only I Can Enter, also known as Kakushi Dungeon!
Why Should You Watch ‘Kakushi Dungeon’?
The Hidden Dungeon Only I Can Enter (Japanese title Ore Dake Haireru Kakushi Dungeon) is the story of Noir, a boy who seems quite unlucky at first: he’s the third son of a third-rate family of nobles whose new job gets stolen by someone with a higher rank than him. So he decides to enter the Hero Academy, where he’ll learn to be an adventurer and battle with monsters.
Happily Noir has three aces up his sleeve. First is his magical skill called Great Sage, who explains everything about the world to him (and to us, the audience). But there’s just one problem: using this skill gives him terrible headaches…unless he’s able to receive kisses from cute girls.
This leads to his second advantage: he just happens to have a busty childhood friend named Emma who’s more than willing to make out with him whenever he needs relief from his headaches. We all wish to be so lucky.
The third benefit Noir receives is access to a kakushi dungeon, a hidden dungeon that only he can enter, where he meets a mysterious girl named Olivia who’s been chained inside for 200 years. She grants him incredible powers, allowing him to create any skill he can imagine, transfer these powers to others, and re-write reality with his Editor ability. He’s basically picking up Infinity Stones, and we’re still in the first episode.
These powers come at a terrible price, though. In order to recharge his Life Points, he has to do things that feel good, such as eating delicious foods, getting sexy with cute girls, using his imouto‘s soft thighs as a lap pillow, and spending money in a hedonistic way. Man, I pity this guy!
Is The Hidden Dungeon Only I Can Enter worth your time? If you like anime with extremely well-written and dramatic stories, no. If you want to turn off your brain and watch a relaxing anime about a guy living the perfect life for a while, then maybe!
