Yui Horie, nicknamed Hocchan by her fans, is a veteran Japanese seiyu and singer working under the King Amusement Creative talent agency. She’s also a member of the anime seiyu idol group Alice5.
Yui Horie knew from the age of six that she wanted to be an anime voice actor when she grew up, after falling in love with the anime Dirty Pair. In junior college, she saw an advertisement for voice actor auditions in an issue of Voice Animage and was selected out of over 3000 applicants. She soon changed schools, entering the Japan Narration Acting Institute to learn voice acting….and the rest is history!

Siesta from Zero no Tsukaima. Being a top voice actress, it’s natural that Yui would act alongside the legendary Queen of Tsundere Rie Kugimiya a lot.

Tsubasa Hanekawa from Monogatari Series. With an IP that has an amazing 23 anime series and films, it’s hard to say whether it’s a good thing that Yui Horie provides the voice of Hanekawa and her catgirl alter ego. I might feel trapped if it were me, required to play the same role for dozens of years. Anyway, she does an amazing job, and we all love the character!
Minori Kushieda from Toradora. Finally, my personal favorite role by Yui-chan, Minorin from Toradora. Re-watching the show is a lot different once you realize the truth that Minori is a latent lesbian who wants Taiga for herself yet is doomed to lose her to Ryuji.
Yui Horie also sings many great songs, from the opening theme to Love Hina to the Silky Hart OP from Toradora to the memorable ED from PapaKiki. The 5th opening to the original Bakemonogatari, which has to have had the most bang-up OPs and EDs of any single series, is another legendary anime song of hers.
