One Night Werewolf x BEASTARS Brings the Mystery to Life

With the release of the BEASTARS anime on Netflix in Japan, the series’ fandom has increased exponentially, and while international fans won’t be able to officially feast their eyes on the anime until 2020, the influx of new merchandise for the series means that there are other ways to scratch your itch and get new people into the fandom. One of those ways is a special BEASTARS version of the card game One Night Werewolf.

Originally, the game pits players, as villagers, against one another as they attempt to figure out who in their group is a werewolf. They must exterminate the hidden menace before the werewolves wipe everyone out. In this licensed version of the game, the villagers become students and the werewolves become the mystery killer(s) of Cherryton High.

Legosi, Haru, Louis, and other characters get both cute chibi art and roles that fit their characters. For example, Legosi becomes the Detective, also known as the Seer in the original game, and Louis and Haru become Troublemakers, players that can switch other player’s cards and roles around. While the game hasn’t been released yet, this special edition will get a pre-release at Tokyo Game Market 2019 on November 23rd and will be available online and in stores on November 28th for 2,000 yen (around 20 dollars). Isn’t it nice that Japan is giving us something else to be thankful for this year?

The BEASTARS version of One Night Werewolf looks to be a fun addition to an already engaging card game. I love the chibi art style and think this game would be a great entry point for new fans of the series, since the game boils down the series’ premise so well. Whether you’re a BEASTARS fan, a party game fan, or both, the game should keep fans of all types and ages entertained and occupied throughout this holiday season. After all, who doesn’t love a good mystery?
