Otaku Quiz! How Many of These Oppai Can You Identify?
I love social media because I can throw out a topic to dozens or hundreds of anime fans about some subject, and engage in interesting discussions about it. And I especially love X and Bluesky for being the final two places where we can post some anime boobs without getting our accounts threatened with deletion. The other day I posted a fun “otaku quiz” meme, asking how many of these anime boobs fans could identify. There were quite a lot of helpful comments from our followers, as well as from other writers on this blog. Were we able to identify them all?
I’m a big believer in “the right tool for the job,” and have built up a fairly long list of skills for finding the source of images. This includes using reverse image search sites like Trace.moe and Yandex and Gelbooru image search. (Google Images used to be the gold standard for image searches, but they stopped caring about this once they rolled out Google Lens.) I’m an expert at knowing which of the many “Booru” image boards will likely have the image I need, so I can save time.

How Big Is Your “Otaku Hippocampus”?
Brains are very adaptable and will enlarge different sections depending on how much they’re called upon to perform tasks. There’s a bird that will hide seeds across a wide area in advance of winter. During this season, its hippocampus will enlarge by 30%, because the bird is spatially “mapping” out where its seeds are hidden. When winter has passed, the bird’s brain returns to normal.
Since I spend so much time looking at thumbnails of anime clips, screenshots, and doujins in my daily work running J-List, I’m sure my “otaku hippocampus” is quite large. My brain will immediately identify this GIF as being from Kiss x Sis, not the TV series but the OAVs, or that style of panties could only come from Agent Aika, not the newer OAVs but the original series.
It’s a hard job, but someone has to do it!

This one was easy for me, and I didn’t even have to do a Google search to find it.
Kurumu from Rosario + Vampire
Image 2 Made Us Fail the Otaku Quiz. Can You Identify the Image?
This one stumped us in the end. Several responders to the X thread and several search engines suggest that image #2 is Kurumu from the Rosario + Vampire anime. But I can’t find the exact image, and there seemed to be very few exposed nipples in that anime. Can you identify the character? Tell us in the comments below!

I had a strong feeling that image 3 came from this anime, but couldn’t find the exact shot. Happily crack J-List blogger JoeSchmo1of3 had made a GIF using this exact shot on his personal blog. Another mystery solved!

Image 4 was easy, because I’ve posted this girl’s breasts to the J-List X account. Were you able to identify her?

Another easy one, thanks to the unique way her nipples are colored.
Image 6: Yuno Gasai from Mirai Nikki
This one also stumped me. No matter how hard I searched the top image search sites, there were no hits. I eventually got lucky by grabbing a few extra pixels of the thumbnail from the meme above, and that enabled Gelbooru image search to get the image for me.

Image 7 was perhaps the easiest image for most of us to identify, and I believe everyone in the initial X thread called it out correctly.

This one was also rather easy, thanks to Maria Naruse’s unique silver locks that hang down from both sides of her head. Incidentally, I submitted the whole meme to Chat GPT (model o4-mini-high) and asked if it could identify the 8th image. It got the character right, but mistakenly said it was for image #9.
Momo from To Love-Ru
Final Otaku Quiz: Did You Identify Momo’s Oppai Correctly?
Another image that J-List blogger Joe identified was Momo Deviluke from To Love-ru. And after several attempts, I found the exact shot in GIF form for this blog post.
