It’s been about three years since season 1 of Kuma Kuma Kuma Bear premiered, introducing Yuna, donned in a cute bear suit, and her unique and adorable isekai adventure in a world of cute bears. Studio EMT Squared put together a nice trailer in advance of the series’ April premier.
As an aside, there will be no bear puns this time around. Bear puns are just …. intolerable.
In case anyone missed them the first time around, Studio EMT have already set up a home page and official Twitter account for Kuma Kuma Kuma Bear. Fans can follow along for updates and interesting key visuals, like the one below.
Kuma Kuma Kuma Bear is a unique and fun isekai series, tailor made for fans who like adorable anime animals and girls dressed up as cute bears. The series follows Yuna, a young shut-in who made quite a sum of money playing the stocks. She spends most of her time playing a VRMMO game titled World Fantasy Online, and has played the game for at least a year by the time the series begins.
Yuna logged into World Fantasy Online after its most recent update, and was given a bear suit with extraordinary, cheat-like abilities. Once she obtained the new gear, she was transported to another world that closely resembled World Fantasy Online. Yuna is a recluse who insists that she does not need friends, and in general, she has a carefree view of life and the world, so she seemed unfazed at being sent to another world. It must have been a shock when she learned that the game admin was a god, though. Thus, Yuna begins a much happier life in another world, gaining a direction in life, and losing two mooching parents.
Kuma Kuma Kuma Bear began its bear-filled life as a light novel series written by Kumanano and illustrated by 029. With a name like that, and the premise of the series, it is abundantly clear that Kumanano loves cute bears. The series was originally posted to the novel publishing website Shōsetsuka ni Narō on October 13th, 2014. Shufu to Seikatsu Sha picked up the rights on May 29th, 2015, and the series has since reached nineteen volumes thus far.
Shufu to Seikatsu Sha saw fit to adapt the series to manga form on March 28th, 2018, with Sergei taking over as illustrator. There are currently eight volumes that fans can collect. On September 16th, 2020, another manga series began its run, titled Kuma Kuma Kuma Beā 〜 Kyō mo Kuma Kuma Biyori 〜, a series that saw Yukinori Satō take over as artist. This series has just two volumes to its name.
EMT Squared is now at bat, taking on the task of adapting Kuma Kuma Kuma Bear. The anime series began airing on October 7th, 2020, with a first season boasting twelve episodes. Fans in the West are able to watch it now on Crunchyroll’s streaming service.
