May Yomi Hirasaka (A Sister’s All You Need) Have a Happy Retirement

It often feels like I never get to write about really positive news. Sure, I can occasionally voice my excitement over an upcoming adaptation or a figure, but I need more. I need to write about news that puts me in a week-long cheery mood. Today I can write about that type of news. One of my favorite authors, Yomi Hirasaka, has announced his retirement! “Kashou, how is that good news that one of your favorite authors isn’t going to write anymore?” I hear you asking. Well, Yomi Hirasaka is retiring because he doesn’t need to work anymore. The dude’s reached financial independence. That’s the “I’ve made it” moment for creative types, so I’ll celebrate his win with gusto.

I know that plenty of anime fans don’t research who wrote the source material for the shows they watch. So here are some Yomi Hirasaka deets.

Hirasaka-sensei was born in Gifu Prefecture and debuted as an author in 2004. Kadokawa’s MF Bunko J imprint published his first light novel, Haunted!, between 2004 and 2005. Since then, he’s authored several light novels and manga, such as:

• Sora ni Usagi ga Noboru Koro (light novel)
• Shimekiri Mae ni wa Yuri ga Hakadoru (light novel & manga)
• Nekuroma (light novel)
• Sekigan no Shounen Occult Maiden ~Kageshou~ (manga)
• Occult Maiden – Hishou – Oni o tsugu Shounen (manga)

But by far, Yomi Hirasaka is best known for A Sister’s All You Need, A Salad Bowl of Eccentrics, and Haganai. All three of those titles received manga and anime adaptations. Now that Hirasaka-sensei’s time as a writer is over, may life treat him with the love he deserves.

Are You a Yomi Hirasaka Fan?

I assume that cultured otaku are familiar with Yomi Hirasaka. I’ve previously written about A Salad Bowl of Eccentrics (Henjin no Salad Bowl) and A Sister’s All You Need (Imouto Sae Ireba Ii), and judging by the comments, both shows are popular. But the combo of Hirasaka’s stories and Kantoku’s art is god-tier, so that’s understandable. But have you ever read Hirasaka-sensei’s lesser-known work? Let us know on the J-List (Official) Discord.
