The groundbreaking ecchi martial arts anime series returns to the battlefield. It’s sometimes difficult to remember that, beneath all of the genderswap and ecchi fun, there’s actual combat in this series. It’s not at Dragon Ball levels, but they do have ki blasts. We’ll see Ranma and Ryoga continue their deadly rivalry with their newest techniques when Ranma 1/2 Season 3 premieres sometime in October 2026.

Rumiko Takahashi released the original Ranma 1/2 manga series between August 19th, 1987, and March 6th, 1996. Shogakukan published all 38 volumes in the Weekly Shonen Sunday magazine. Studio Deen’s anime adaptation premiered on April 15th, 1989. Studio MAPPA’s anime adaptation premiered on October 6th, 2024.
Ranma 1/2 Cast
The unlikely martial arts couple and a love rival are as follows:
- Ranma Saotome — Kappei Yamaguchi (male Ranma) (Kechizu from Jujutsu Kaisen), Megumi Hayashibara (female Ranma) (Musashi/Jessie from Pokémon). Ranma is a martial artist whose skill matches his ego. A curse transforms Ranma into a girl whenever he’s doused with cold water.
- Akane Tendo — Noriko Hidaka (Shiny Chariot / Professor Ursula from Little Witch Academia). Akane is Ranma’s tomboy fiancée and a fellow martial artist.
- Shampoo — Rei Sakuma (Lidvia Lorenzetti from To Aru Majutsu no Index III). Shampoo is a Chinese Amazon who loves male Ranma and hates female Ranma.
Studio MAPPA maintains a website, a TikTok account, and a Twitter (X) account to promote Ranma 1/2. You can find more information about the series and the key visuals there.
Ranma 1/2 Returns to the Battlefield
Ranma Saotome is a lifelong martial artist who traveled the world alongside his father to hone their skills. Unfortunately, both father and son fell into the springs, with Gendo cursed into a panda form, and Ranma cursed into a girl form. They returned home, where Gendo Saotome told Ranma that he had promised his dear friend that Ranma would marry one of the Tendo daughters. Despite their hostilities, Ranma and Akane become engaged to wed.
In more recent times, Ranma’s eternal rival Ryoga Hibiki has appeared to challenge him once again. Ryoga intends to undergo extensive training to master the Bakusai Tenketsu (Explosive-Breaking Point-Hole) and use it against Ranma in their fight. This technique allows the user to shatter large boulders with a single touch. The battle for Akane’s affections will continue until the young lady walks down the aisle with someone.
