Made in Abyss: Awakening Mystery Delves Into Theaters

Riko and her ragtag band of hollow Earth explorers are back! A new movie is on the horizon, and thankfully, it’s not the Hollywood one. Let’s run down what you need to know before delving into the theater. Riko is the orphan daughter of two legendary Delvers, those who explore the titular Abyss. She longs to follow in her mother’s footsteps, become a White Whistle Delver, and maybe find out what happened to her mother on her Last Dive. We’ll see her continue her grand adventures in the darkness when the Made in Abyss: Awakening Mystery movie premieres on October 23rd, 2026.

Akihito Tsukushi released the original Made in Abyss manga series on October 20th, 2012. Takeshobo has since published fourteen volumes in Web Comic Gamma. Studio Kinema Citrus’s anime adaptation premiered on July 7th, 2017. The first movie in the series premiered on January 4th, 2019.

Made in Abyss: Awakening Mystery Cast

Three of the star Delvers are as follows:

Riko — Miyu Tomita (Funifura from KonoSuba: An Explosion on This Wonderful World!). Riko is an orphan who longs for adventure and answers.
Reg — Mariya Ise (Himeno from Chainsaw Man). Reg is an amnesiac robot boy who joins Riko.
Nanachi — Shiori Izawa (Mini the Lady from Umamusume: Cinderella Gray). Nanachi is an orphan and the victim of inhuman experiments that turned her into a Narehate.

Made in Abyss: Awakening Mystery Delves Deeper

The town of Orth is home to a large maw that allows the brave, fearless, and potentially insane to explore the dark, hollow realm of the Abyss. This place is home to ancient, forgotten civilizations and the powerful artifacts they produced. Delvers not only face the general risks that accompany exploring unknown places, but also the monsters that roam those places, and a Curse that could strip them of their sanity and humanity. And yet they still go. See? Potentially insane.

Riko is a child of two such brave Delvers. Her father, Torka, was a Black Whistle with the Delver Guild HQ, someone who researched the Abyss and supported other Delvers. Her mother, Lyza, was a White Whistle and a legend among other Delvers. Though Riko’s father passed on, her mother’s fate is currently unknown. So, she takes up their mantle to become a White Whistle and to find the truth about her mother’s disappearance beyond the Absolute Boundary.
