Episode 13 — “Wakana Gojou, 15 Years Old, Teenager”
First Thoughts.
Has it been three years since the last episode of My Dress-Up Darling? It feels so much longer. But Marin and her “wuv” for Gojou are back as if they had never left the screen. All the production staff, the animation studio (CloverWorks), and the voice actors have returned. It’s a pure continuation! How much has changed outside the world of My Dress-Up Darling? Back when it first started streaming, it was on Crunchyroll, Funimation, and the streaming app VRV (which pulled streaming accounts into one interface). Anime streaming in the West is now under a virtual monopoly led by Sony’s ownership of Crunchyroll. However, subtitles are now in multiple languages at the first drop rather than waiting a few weeks for other countries to catch up. And dub fans will also have shorter wait times.
Will Marin and her effusive reactions make as large a splash as she did in a world where we have a glut of anime choices? Maybe painting doll faces is not as creepy as Gojou thought? Until he met Marin in My Dress-Up Darling’s first episode, he had thought he had to hide his pastime. But after hanging out with other dudes and Marin’s friends, his self-confidence took a step upward. Could it be that his childhood friend, Non-chan, was in the wrong? Outside observers could easily interpret that scene as a girl trying to hurt her friend’s feelings for some childish reason. Gojou now has external confirmation that he’s not a creep! Can he share his hobby and future employment publicly? And make friends? What an emotional shock.
But, poor Gojou. Before he can process his new reality, he faces regular teenage angst. Is he going out with a beautiful girl, or not? I cringe in anticipation that his reactions (low self-esteem fueling them) might hurt Marin’s feelings. It’s like an echo of the third episode of My Dress-Up Darling, where he avoided Marin because he thought he would damage her reputation if people saw her talking to a “creep.” Bring on the cringe because Gojou’s no longer a teenage dirtbag, baby!

I love how much fun the My Dress-Up Darling producers have with animating the in-story anime shows. I believe Shinju Inui has the proportions to play Luna Kamikage from Tsukiyono Company. Bunny girl assassins? Oh, Marin will cosplay as one of these girls! Sajuna would definitely play the twin-tail pettanko. Ah! Gojou enjoyed the episode. His otaku education continues!
Marin has a lot of fun during the opening theme song by Spira Spica. It’s a recap of the first season! The opening credits also spoil all the characters Marin will play this summer. And yup, Marin still adorably “wuvs” Gojou-kun.
Three years later, My Dress-Up Darling continues with episode 13. There it is. Marin wants to cosplay the klutzy bunny girl assassin. Whoa. Marin shows obsessive, crazy eyes for bunny girls. Everyone loves bunny girls, Gojou-kun. That’s news to him! Wait! Gojou gets it if he can compare bunny girls to bisque dolls. Obsession speaks to obsession! Har. Gojou is happy to shoot photos in a studio instead of a love hotel. Hard sell. Someone already used the casino studio for a Luna cosplay shoot. Marin still flirts shamelessly! And teases! Uh oh. Nowa, Marin’s friend, needs attention. She notices things about Marin’s “friendship” with Gojou.
My Dress-Up Darling Bones Bunny Girls!
Marin is such a gyaru in wuv. She still gets so nervous going over to Gojou’s house. But this time, in My Dress-Up Darling, episode 13, Gojou invited her! Relationship progress? Ah. He’s in a funk because he needs help assembling a bunny girl suit. Marin quickly got over her romantic disappointment. The issue is how to keep a bunny suit from staying on her boobs instead of sliding down her chest. Gojou would rather not compromise his standards. He prefers the costume to look like the anime version. Marin has a solution: Ask for help!
Hahaha! The fabric store owner thought Gojou would wear the bunny girl suit! The times sure have changed in My Dress-Up Darling. Oops. There’s a hot gyaru standing next to Gojou! Gomenasai! Ooh. Marin and Gojou should have asked an expert. Mr. Fabric Store knows how to secure a bunny girl suit top! Make it a corset! Marin dies inside from the lack of potential wardrobe malfunctions.
It is time for boning Marin. Uh. I mean. Marin can try out Gojou’s bunny suit with boning in the top. Oh no. Marin said something was wrong with the suit! Ah. Her pair of panties’ thigh-cut isn’t high enough to match the suit. This is a Marin problem rather than a Gojou problem. She can’t go commando in this costume!
Lay Your Cards and Bunny Girl Down in My Dress-Up Darling
They must have figured out a solution because Gojou and Marin are at the casino setting studio. Gojou draws a comparison between placing hina dolls in a matching set and cosplayers in a movie or photo shooting set. So, how did Marin solve the high-cut thigh? Skin-colored tights! Cosplay is all about creative compromise and problem-solving. The narrator says the episode title while Wakana Gojou (fifteen years old, a teenager) can only see bare skin. Hnnghh! Inguinal groove… look it up!
My Dress-Up Darling photoshoot — start! Can Gojou hold the camera steady enough? Marin, as the bunny girl assassin, is too much! Confirmed? Gojou is an ass man? The Halloween party resembles a music video montage. And we’re in a karaoke box. I see. Gojou is in the mascot rabbit costume to match Marin’s bunny girl suit. The girls brought boys from their friend group. Aw. Gojou’s fear of rejection makes him shy and feel out of place. The bros wondered how Gojou knows how to apply makeup, but it was out of curiosity. The girls mention male makeup artists in the modeling industry. The shy boy felt accepted for the first time. Enough self-realization: Are you and Marin dating, Gojou-kun? Cliffhanger!
