Have you been enjoying The Shiunji Family Children as much as I have? Peter-senpai seems to approve of the show. Many other people do too (judging by the number of posts I see). It’s straightforward to see why Shiunji-ke no Kodomotachi would receive praise — its characters are lovable, the art style is endearing, and there’s pseudo incest! I don’t have to tell you that stepsister anime are usually the most entertaining in the rom-com genre. Everything from the absurdity of their plots to their kawaii heroines and sense of guilt is addictive.
Stepsister romance blends the best part of opposing extremes. It gives you fluffy, affectionate love and the thrill of doing something taboo. If I ever get a hot step-sis, you better call me Oguri Cap, because I’m racing toward that finish line. To quote Seiha from The Shiunji Family Children, “We may be siblings, but we’re not biologically related. So, it’s certainly possible for us to have sexual relations.”
I understand that saying you like this material is like making a 9/11 joke at the World Trade Center Memorial. Most will look at you like you’re trash, but others will have the laugh of their lives. So, if you want to stuff a sexy step-sis like a Thanksgiving turkey, like me, then I’ve got some recommendations for you!
Stepsister Anime — Eromanga Sensei
Of all the shows I’ve seen with a stepsister plot, I hold Eromanga Sensei the dearest. This show perfectly blended fan service, ecchiness, and sincerity. For anyone who’s looking for a not-too-wild viewing experience, this is the show for you. Eromanga Sensei never takes itself too seriously but never strays from possibility. It never becomes a lust-fest, but the sexual tension and unfamiliar territory that come with this type of scenario are always insidiously present.
Eromanga Sensei revolves around stepsiblings Masamune and Sagiri, a brother/sister pairing whose parents passed away. While Masamune tries to adapt to their loss, Sagiri withdraws to the point where she becomes a full-blown hikikomori. With limited help from his family and his earnings as a light novel author, Masamune does his best to care for his little sister. But unbeknownst to him, two important things were flying below his radar — his sister is the erotic illustrator for his novels, and she’s in love with him!
ASCII Media Works’ Dengeki Bunko imprint published the Eromanga Sensei light novel between December 10, 2013, and August 10, 2022. Written by Tsukasa Fushimi and illustrated by Hiro Kanzaki, the light novel boasts 13 volumes. A manga adaptation illustrated by Rin ran between November 2014 and September 2021. Domestic Girlfriend
If I could summarize Domestic na Kanojo in a single word, it would be “drama.” This stepsister anime thrives on drama; it’s the kind of show you can’t move away from. Domestic Girlfriend is like watching a shark attack video — at times, you’re going to be horrified, but you can’t look away. But much like Eromanga Sensei, this anime has godly sincerity.
Domestic Girlfriend is infuriating, messy, and trippy because it shows how messy a stepsibling relationship can be if all parties involved go full throttle.
This stepsister anime centers around the newly christened stepsiblings Natsu Fujii, Hina Tachibana, and Rui Tachibana. When Natsuo attends a mixer to get his mind off his one-sided love aimed at his teacher Hina, his life deviates in a way he could never expect. At that mixer, he meets the meek and demure Rui Tachibana, and after a few shared words, the two decide to spend a lust-filled night together. Believing they’ll never meet again, the two parted with a few words.
However, after the single parents introduce them to their new partners, everyone’s life becomes significantly more complicated as Hina, Rui, and Hina become a family.
Kodansha’s Weekly Shōnen Magazine serialized Domestic na Kanojo between April 2014 and June 2020. Written and illustrated by Kei Sasuga, the manga boasts 28 tankoubon volumes. HIDIVE streams this drama-packed stepsister anime.
Kiss x Sis
Today on “Shows I can’t watch without a massive boner,” allow me to introduce the majesty of Kiss x Sis. Have you ever complained about male MCs in ecchi shows being as aggressive as a snail? Sure, you have; we all know that pain. Thankfully, you won’t worry about that in this ultra-steamy stepsister anime.
Kiss x Sis follows the Suminoe siblings (Keita, Ako, and Riko). A brother/twin sister pair who can’t get enough of each other. Unlike previous entries where our stepsibling protagonists have a relatively short relationship, the Suminoe family has been together most of their lives. But as the siblings grow, their familiar love changes into something way more erotic. With both girls vying for Keita’s affection and with a fierce determination to be his wife, this is the steamiest stepsister anime on this list.
Spanning seventeen years, the Kiss x Sis manga was originally a one-shot by Bow Ditama published in Kodansha’s Weekly Young Magazine in 2004. Bessatsu Young Magazine serialized the full-length adaptation between December 2005 and August 2008. From there, Weekly Young Magazine serialized the manga until 2009. It then transferred to Monthly Young Magazine, which ran the Kiss x Sis manga until its 2021 conclusion. Kiss x Sis boasts a 12-episode TV anime and a 12-episode OVA.
Onee-chan ga Kita
Often, life doesn’t allow us much free time. At some point, all die-hard anime fans binged several shows a day, only later to struggle with a few episodes.
After our careers, relationships, and age catch up to us, binge-watching shows becomes significantly more difficult. That’s where short-form anime comes in! With shorter, easier-to-follow plots, short-form anime allows you to binge full shows in an hour or less. So, if you have limited time but want to watch a cuddly stepsister anime, then Onee-chan ga Kita is what you’re looking for.
This three-minute anime follows Ichika and Tomoya Mizuhara. When Tomoya’s dad remarried and got a stepmom, he also gained a really odd older sister — one who sticks to him like glue. While it initially seems like an overprotective stepsister coddling her brother due to the loss of her dad, you quickly realize that her affection goes far beyond that.
Riko Anzai wrote and illustrated Onee-chan ga Kita, serialized in Takeshobo’s Manga Life and Manga Life Momo from 2011 to 2020. While missing the ecchiness of the previous titles, this stepsister anime is perfect for anyone watching a short, sharp, kawaii show. Crunchyroll streams Onee-chan ga Kita.
