Trading card games based on anime are nothing new. With new Pokémon games coming this year and next, and the One Piece CG having become an international hit, with official tournaments happening around the world, it’s easy to see that hobbyists love them! Now, Detective Conan is getting a trading card game too.
The first Detective Conan TCG decks and booster packs are set to release on May 4. That’s the birthday of the series’ protagonist, Shunichi Kudo, alias Conan Edogawa. There’s no word yet about an English translation of the game, but we sure hope we get one.
The official Twitter account for the Detective Conan Card Game announced on January 7th that they would be introducing a new card game based on the popular manga series. In the ninth issue of Weekly Shonen Sunday, released in the same month, a “first card” promo featuring an illustration of Conan was included. The card’s design is based on one of the magazine’s issues in which the series was first released.
Five starter decks based on the characters Conan Edogawa, Heiji Hattori, Kaito Kid, Shuichi Akai, and Toru Amuro will be available. Grow your collection with six-card booster packs.
Detective Conan’s Growing Legacy
Detective Conan (also known as Case Closed) is an ongoing manga series created by Gosho Aoyama. It debuted on January 5, 1994. Its continuing popularity has led to the creation of an anime series, anime films, video games, and spinoffs. The TCG is just one of the many promotions happening this year for the franchise, as its 27th animated movie, titled Detective Conan: The Million-dollar Pentagram, is set to premiere in Japan on April 21, 2024.
