It’s been a while since we last saw Mia try to avoid a dire future for herself and her empire. Silver Link has released a new trailer for the forthcoming Tearmoon Empire. An empire’s princess gets a second chance to do the right thing. She’s taking it, but maybe for some selfish reasons. The more things change, the more they stay the same. We’ll see how well Mia does when the series premieres on October 7, 2023. Until then, we’ll have to make do with the new trailer.
Nozomu Mochitsuki began writing the tale of a selfish princess fleeing from a guillotine on the user-generated website Shosetsuka ni Naro on August 13, 2018. TO Books picked up the publishing rights and hired the artist Gilse to help turn it into a light novel. Fourteen volumes have been published on the pages of the TO Bunko imprint as of June 10, 2019.
Tearmoon Empire is set to collapse soon. The following people are among its last hope of survival.
- Mia Luna Tearmoon — Sumire Uesaka (Hayase Nagatoro in Don’t Toy with Me, Miss Nagatoro) Mia is the selfish princess of the Tearmoon Empire. She has somehow transported back in time eight years before her death. Her goal now is to avert calamity.
- Anne Littstein — Tomori Kusunoki (Rovian Kirishima in Yu-Gi-Oh! Go Rush!!) Mia’s personal maid. She’s incredibly loyal and dutiful despite her clumsy mistakes.
- Ludwig Hewitt — Yuichiro Umehara (Klaus in Spy Classroom) Mia’s loyal subject and an employee at the Golden Moon Ministry. Like Anne, he was faithful to Mia until the very end.
Silver Link has maintained a promotional home page and a Twitter page to keep fans current. The home page even has a new key visual.
Fall of an Empire, Fall of a Guillotine
Tearmoon Empire presents a story much like 7th Time Loop: a cute girl horribly dies but obtains another chance at life. Well. I don’t think Mia will get as many shots at it as Rishe does. The titular empire saw a great downfall from financial woes, compounded by famine and disease. The disaffected populace rose up in revolution, aided by a neighboring country, to take control. Mia Luna Tearmoon, a selfish princess, was imprisoned for three years before being executed.
Upon her death, Mia awoke eight years in the past, in a younger body. Fearful of her impending demise, Mia is set on averting the empire’s downfall by addressing its issues years before they can take effect. She is aided by her maid and a government employee, who show her loyalty even as she is imprisoned. It’s only a matter of time until it’s seen whether or not her efforts bear fruit.
Silver Link Makes Grand, Royal Gestures Again
Hayato Kaneko, a former Frontline animation producer, founded Silver Link in December 2007. Shin Oonuma, Akiyuki Shinbo, and Tatsuya Oishi, former Shaft creators, joined him shortly afterward.
Tearmoon Empire isn’t their first foray into reincarnated princesses. My Next Life as a Villainess: All Routes Lead to Doom! was also one of their works. That’s an isekai series, though, and the main character is a Japanese otaku in a villainess’s body, but it’s still similar. Ragna Crimson has a similar time travel and second chance theme. Now, for something completely different, Hokkaido Gals Are Super Adorable! is clearly appropriately titled.
For those seeking another cute blonde princess, J-List has a few ideas in mind. The Yue Figure from the isekai series Arifureta: From Commonplace to World’s Strongest is available for purchase. She’s a very approachable vampire princess.
