Glenn makes a house call and meets many of his thankful patients and friends along the way.

Case 12 – “The City of Dragons’ Doctor”

Hmm.

The final episode of Monster Girl Doctor’s first season had little doctoring, monster or otherwise, but Sapphee finally got her own examination scene. Glenn saved the last for the best snake girl. For harem fans, you got your fill from a slice-of-life episode ending with a party. The fun revelation of the episode was how overbearing Skadi the little dragon lady could be when she’s not fighting a bloodsucking tumor. She will focus all that extra energy like a laser on Glenn, so he better be prepared to juggle the affection and attention from snakes, spiders, horses, and dragons, along with the occasional flirtatious moment from fish, birds, octopuses, flesh golems, and busty one-eyed girls.

Heh.

Skadi took off her veil in public and spoke out loud! It’s a new era. Aw, Kunai doesn’t get to yell for Skadi anymore. Uh oh. Glenn couldn’t make the speech because he’s playing doctor to another monster girl. No problem for Skadi: she’ll pay him a visit instead. Wow, she’s pushy. Ominous in a fun way. She’ll show Glenn what happens “when he brings a lonely little dragon out of her shell.”

Ah ha. Snake tongue plays with Sapphee due to a canker sore. Honey is a homeopathic treatment for canker sores. Hoh. Glenn made Sapphee’s mouth tired. What an animal! Aw. Sapphee is the only one who can make Glenn blush.

Oops. Skadi’s trip to Glenn’s clinic derailed. How does a carriage lose a wheel in the city? Luckily for Skadi, Glenn conveniently walked by. Hilarious! She jumps into his arms and wants to go somewhere. Pushy! She wants a tryst! She calls him “Big Brother!” Haha. Glenn points out she’s much older than he is. Doesn’t matter, onii-chan. Kunai now has another role: keeping a lid on a little monster girl’s libido. Har. Kunai wants Skadi to hug her instead. No dice. Skadi is like a four-year-old raising her skirt. Bad dragon girl! You can see the scar from her open-heart surgery. Kunai gets mad at Skadi for being indecent and at Glenn for not getting excited. Big dragon girl disappointment. Glenn has work to do.

Ah. This is a harem episode. Memé walks by to help fix the carriage, which means we’ll see all the other monster girls too. No word on Cthulhy’s condition yet. Nice. Skadi thanked Memé for making her suture needles. Okay, so Skadi had a real trip to make to Glenn’s clinic to deliver a thank you gift. Memé gets one too! Uh, that’s a big gift. Drink!

Here we go. Lulala shows up to gawk at the wine barrels. No help there. Oh ho. Monster girl yuri action? Nah. Arahnia is just her teasing self to Sapphee. Snake girls have butts! Bah. Arahnia dressed Sapphee instead of undressing. Sapphee lets Arahnia join her and Glenn for dinner. I think there’s going to be more than three people at this dinner. Memé has wine!

Yay! Dione is the harpy village’s best giant friend. She’s their only giant friend. I’m saying giants are rare, okay? The harpies offer a basket of produce as thanks, but Dione’s basket gift for visiting is way bigger. She’s a big monster girl, after all. Tisalia and attendants come to help Memé move the wine barrels. Why is Tisalia laughing so hard? She must be nervous meeting Glenn again. They brought even more wine. And a lot of meat and vegetables. I sense a harem banquet about to break out.

Fun! The minotaur family came to thank Glenn too. That little baby should be well-fed. Haha. Arahnia’s shoujo vision is on point. Oh, good. The harpies want to share Dione’s bounty. I suppose Illy will stay for dinner too. Sapphee exerts her dominance as the best monster girl waifu. Party time! Sapphee wants to know about this “onii-chan” business from Skadi. Glenn has no idea.

Impromptu banquet feels like it celebrates Monster Girl Doctor the anime, not just Glenn, the monster girl doctor. Second-tier waifus sit together. I’d still like to get an explanation of Illy’s fear of big eyes.

Tisalia correctly identifies the entry of a new top tier waifu. Skadi is so snuggly. Sapphee had enough of that display. Skadi is a strategic thinker. While the Big Three bicker, the little dragon lady steals Glenn away. Monster girl pile-on Glenn. The end.

Final Thoughts.

The harem of Monster Girl Doctor was always going to be the main hook because of anime fans like looking at pretty girls, ranking the waifus, and deciding which of their charm points work. Glenn as the harem master worked well, because he may have been clueless about the effect he had on women, but he had the plausible excuse of concentrating on his medical procedures. This was the other effective premise of Monster Girl Doctor: using the medical setting for Glenn to lay hands on monster girls and make them squeal, squirm, and moan. That was good work from all the voice actresses too.

The best part of the show for me was how imaginative the creators were in using a chimera body’s different animal parts to set a medical disorder for Glenn to diagnose and treat. Monster Girl Doctor was more akin to a preindustrial slice-of-life anime, like Arte was about Renaissance artists, with harem elements and sexy fanservice thrown in for spice and flavor.

To be sure, that sexy fanservice was excellent. The character designs made sure almost every mythological humanoid chimera fetish showed up. The outlier was Kunai, representing Frankenstein’s Monster, so she was more of a human chimera, made up of different people. Also, it appears that brassieres don’t exist in Lindworm, because the voluptuous monster girls looked like they tried to escape their blouses nipple first. I appreciate a consistent art style like that.

The big question for Monster Girl Doctor is whether there will be a second season. The adaptation source of light novels and manga continue their regular releases (the sixth volume published on September 8th), so there’s plenty of material for more anime episodes of monster girls vying for Glenn’s attention, medical or otherwise. We will need to see how strong the fan reception becomes to support a sequel in anime format, but the best monster girl waifu Sapphee already has her own Nendoroid figure planned for next year. I hope Monster Girl Doctor returns soon enough to satisfy fans of chimera bodies, puffy nipples, fang smiles, and moans and drooling out of context.
