This week, many currently airing anime say goodbye as they broadcast the final episode of their runs. For many shows, this is the last we’ll be hearing from them, at least for a while. For some shows, though, their future plans are made known immediately, as every season a few shows wrap up their run by teasing or announcing a second season right away. One such anime to play its cards that way is BOFURI: I Don’t Want to Get Hurt, so I’ll Max Out My Defense, an adorable video game-focused anime that just finished airing, only to confirm that a second season is on the way.
The 12th and final episode of BOFURI: I Don’t Want to Get Hurt, so I’ll Max Out My Defense just aired at the end of March, but fans were delighted to see that the climactic closing episode confirmed that the adorable anime is set to get a second season. Details on the new season are scarce, beyond the fact that it exists. It will most likely be animated by the same studio, SILVER LINK, and the main voice cast is sure to be reprising their roles for the follow-up season as well.
The story of BOFURI: I Don’t Want to Get Hurt, So I’ll Max Out My Defense takes place in the world of a VR MMO called “NewWorld Online.” Protagonist Kaede Honjo is invited to play the game by her friend, Risa Shiramine. Kaede is down to try it out, but she’s got a massive fear of being in pain. Because of that, she creates a character named Maple and dumps all of her skill points into her defense power, or VIT. The result? Maple is insanely slow, can’t use magic, and gets pushed around by bunnies, but she never feels pain and always takes zero damage. Through learning a variety of incredibly convenient skills like “Absolute Defense,” “Counter Skill,” and “Lethal Poison,” she’s able to breeze through encounters despite having absolutely no combat prowess whatsoever.
