Oregairu My Teen Romantic Comedy SNAFU Previews Season 3 Opening

A lot of iconic modern anime fit into pretty similar genres and categories. Series like Sword Art Online and Re:Zero − Starting Life in Another World are both critically acclaimed isekai stories, while other major hits like Demon Slayer and My Hero Academia are both stellar Shonen action series. When it comes to critically acclaimed romance stories in the world of anime, one clear champion stands out. My Youth Romantic Comedy Is Wrong, As I Expected (Yahari Ore no Seishun Love Come wa Machigatteiru.), lovingly referred to in short-hand as Oregairu, is an anime adaptation of a young-love light novel series that has been sweeping the anime world for years. Now, fans and newcomers alike are in-store for another wild ride, as season three of the series, My Teen Romantic Comedy SNAFU: Fin (Yahari Ore no Seishun Love Come wa Machigatteiru. Kan) is set to premiere on April 9. Now, the first promotional video for season three of Oregairu has dropped, previewing the brand new opening song for the anime.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V_Cvvl1fVBE&feature=emb_title

The new opening song for Oregairu/My Teen Romantic Comedy SNAFU: Fin is titled “Megumi no Ame” (Budding Rain), and is performed by Nagi Yanagi. Fans will recognize Yanagi as the opening theme performer for the previous two seasons of the anime. The ending theme song, meanwhile, is titled “Diamond no Jundo” (Purity of a Diamond). It will be performed by Saori Hayami and Nao Tōyama as their respective characters, Yukino Yukinoshita and Yui Yuigahama.

You’ll be able to catch the uninterrupted version of the song when the show premieres on April 9 in Japan on TBS. The show is set to air at 1:58AM, effectively meaning it premieres on April 10. The anime will also be streaming on Amazon Prime Video in Japan the same day, likely meaning that overseas fans will be able to catch the subtitled version of the show on Amazon Prime Video as well.

The main cast of the series is returning for Oregairu/My Teen Romantic Comedy SNAFU: Fin. Among them are the following:

  • Takuya Eguchi as Hachiman Hikigaya
  • Saori Hayami as Yukino Yukinoshita
  • Nao Tōyama as Yui Yuigahama
  • Ayane Sakura as Iroha Isshiki

The staff from the second season of the show are also set to return to work on this third season. Kei Oikawa, director on season two of the show as well as Hinamatsuri and Outbreak Company, is set to return to direct the third season at studio feel. Keiichiro Ochi, a scriptwriter from season two who also worked on Hinamatsuri and The Quintessential Quintuplets, will be script supervisor on the new season. Yuichi Tanaka is returning as the character designer for the new season, having previously worked on season two and other shows such as A Certain Magical Index and A Certain Scientific Railgun.

Oregairu/My Teen Romantic Comedy SNAFU: Fin is an adaptation of the final set of stories from the light novel series My Youth Romantic Comedy Is Wrong, As I Expected. The novels previously inspired two other seasons of the anime, which were both streamed by Crunchyroll under the titles My Teen Romantic Comedy SNAFU and My Teen Romantic Comedy SNAFU TOO!. Interestingly, while season one of the series was produced and animated by Brains Base, studio feel took over the series for season two and the upcoming season three. Sentai Filmworks, meanwhile, licensed and released the two prior seasons of the series or home video release in North America. The localization company is also set to produce an English dub for both seasons, packaging the new audio experience in with an updated home release of the series that is set to launch this year.

The original novels that inspired Oregairu/My Teen Romantic Comedy SNAFU: Fin are licensed and published overseas by Yen Press under the title My Youth Romantic Comedy Is Wrong, As I Expected. Yen Press has also licensed and published the manga version of the series, Naomichi Io‘s My Youth Romantic Comedy Is Wrong, As I Expected @ comic, releasing it back in 2015. The story of the series is described as follows:

Hachiman Hikigaya is a cynic. “Youth” is a crock, he believes–a sucker’s game, an illusion woven from failure and hypocrisy. But when he turns in an essay for a school assignment espousing this view, he’s sentenced to work in the Service Club, an organization dedicated to helping students with problems in their lives! How will Hachiman the Cynic cope with a job that requires–gasp!–optimism?

Wataru Watari started releasing the original novels back in 2011, with illustrations by Ponkn8. The final story arc of the series began in the 12th volume, which came out in September 2017. The 14th and final volume of the series, meanwhile, released on November 19 of last year.
