The opening moments of Elfin Lied (the final word is pronounced “leed” as it’s German) really grab us: there’s this annoying girl who we hate instantly, but a few minutes later Lucy (above), a supernatural mutant, spares us the annoying girl’s company by ripping her head off while we stare in shock. Elfin Lied is truly a light-hearted show for the whole family.
Kallen Kozuki from Lelouche of the Rebellion
Another badass anime girl who is always doing something cool on-screen.
Gunpuku no Himegimi from Re:Creators
Re:Creators was a brilliant concept: anime characters enter our world, becoming real flesh and blood, and can even meet and interact with their own creators (light novel writers, etc.) and voice actors. The main enemy was this lady, Gunpuku no Himegimi, whose cool character design compelled me to watch the series.
Homura Akemi from Madoka Magica
She’s your worst fucking nightmare, a time-traveling magical girl with a gun. A whole bunch of them actually.
The Dirty Pair
Named after a pro wrestling duo called Beauty Hair, the sexy girls of the WWWA (pronounced “three W A”), who will “solve any problem for you” started out as an anime-within-an-anime, literally showing on a drive-in movie screen in 1983’s Crusher Joe The Movie.
