One interesting trend that’s been sneaking up on us is the huge popularity of demi-human anime girls, who sport cute catgirl or dog girl or monster girl features. They bring all the benefits of a cute and loving anime waifu, but go beyond mere human girls. I asked J-List customers to share their favorite demi-human waifus, and here’s the list we came up with!
Why Are Demi-Humans the Best?
Demi-human, also known as 亜人 A-Jin in Japanese, are a class of not-quite-human characters in anime, manga, and games that covers a ridiculously wide field, with everything from human-animal hybrids to monster girls like vampires or lamia (snake girls) or centaurs. While a few categories have been around for decades (the first anime catgirl is probably Neko Musume from Gegege no Kitaro), the genre really exploded, in both mainstream and ecchi anime, with a Cyc came called Princess X: My Fiancee is a Monster Girl?!, in 2011.
Some of the benefits of dating a demi-human waifu include:
- They’re cute and have animal ears or tails you can fluff.
- While you might have some moral qualms about thinking naughty thoughts about a human girl, they’re subject to a different set of rules. They might even be a 600-year-old wolf deity!
- Depending on the characters, you can likely have sex with them and not worry about pregnancy. It’s free real estate!
The 11 Best Demi-Human Anime Waifu Ranking!
Kyaru from Princess Connect. Of course, catgirls are well-represented on the list of top demi-human waifu characters, and Kyaru from PriConne is a fan favorite. The best thing about this game/anime is enjoying the ‘Rule 34’ art that’s out there.
All the Girls from Nekopara. You can’t talk about catgirls without picking some from Nekopara. Which one is your favorite?

Raphtalia from The Rising of the Shield Hero. The cute trash panda girl won the hearts of fans immediately with her loyalty and cute character design.
Grea from Manaria Friends. If low-key lesbian dragon girls are your jam, you should check out this show!
Ilulu from Kobayashi Dragon Maid. The character who came to define Japanese animators’ response to certain Western Twitter users, who whine about any short character with large boobs, will go down in history as another top-tier demi-human waifu.
Miia from Daily Lives with Monster Girls. While all the girls in Mon-Musu are great, we must shout out to the best snek girl out there.

Helpful Fox Senko-san. A legendary anime about a tired and worn-down Japanese salaryman who gets himself an 800-year-old foxgirl wife who cooks for him…then lets him lay his tired head on her lap while she cleans his ears for him (headphones recommended).
Shizu the Pregnant Foxwaifu. Another legendary foxgirl, Shizu from female hentai artist YukibusterZ is excellent. When your father dies, you inherit her as part of his estate, and she insists that the two of you be married. But since foxgirl and human marriages aren’t legally recognized by human society, she also wants you to impregnate her, so that no one can deny she is your faithful wife. Zero Two from Darling in the Franxx. The show that made “dinosaur girls” a thing is top quality. It’s an especially good show if you’re a fan of Gainax anime, as the whole series is a long love letter to those classic shows.
Roxanne from Harem in the Labyrinth of Another World. The top non-human waifu of the summer 2022 anime season is Roxanne, the slave girl who willingly becomes the lover of her new owner. She doesn’t need to put on the red light anymore…
Holo from Spice and Wolf. Of course, the best wolf goddess would have to be in the top spot of this list. She loves eating an apple and listening to her beau talk about economics. Best of all, the loyalty of fans over the past 13 years has been rewarded with tons of figures and a continuation of the story soon!
