Ah, hentai tags, the quickest way to find exactly the naughty content you want to see on the Internet right now. Everyone has their own internal list of hentai tags they love, and which ones they absolutely hate, and being able to quickly browse exactly the content we want is amazing. In this post, let’s consider which tags are popular in different parts of the world!

Great news! J-List is celebrating hand-drawn ecchi art in all its forms with a massive 15% sale on all hentai manga, doujinshi, and anime from Japan! Whether you love the amazing hentai manga and doujins J-List stocks, or want to stock up on some amazing ero anime, we’ve got what you want in stock. Start browsing here!

What Is The Most Popular Hentai Tag In Your Country? Main

When Did Hentai Tags Appear?

I’ve been part of online anime communities since the early days of rec.arts.anime. This was part of a network of discussion groups where people from around the world could talk about various topics. Sort of like what Reddit is today. J-List started as a big list of doujinshi or JPOP music CDs I kept in an Excel spreadsheet titled The Japan List. I would post the list for people to read and tell me which items they wanted to buy. This era was my “proof of concept” that an anime/ecchi shop located in Japan could succeed. The idea led me to start J-List as a proper company in 1996.

As anime and hentai grew in popularity and more content moved online, it became important to organize it better. Fans wanted to browse ecchi content not only by genre and series but also track certain labels they might have developed a fetish for. Happily, early websites like Danbooru and E-Hentai had tags there to help them find what they wanted. When fans discovered Japanese tentacle hentai, or that Sailor Jupiter x Sailor Mercury hentai was a thing, they could quickly find exactly what they wanted thanks to the appropriate hentai tags. When Mio’s blue-and-white striped panties ignited a shimapan boom in 2010, it was useful that there were tags for that. For each color, in fact.

Do you have a fetish for meganekko, aka girls with glasses? Are you fascinated with panchira, catching a glimpse up a cute girl’s skirt? Or maybe you love “convenient censorship”? There are tags for all of these, too.

Judging from the map above, European countries really love the Futanari tag. The second most popular genre is Monster Girls, followed by Anal, Cheating, Vanilla, and Chikan. This roughly matches up with what J-List sees in the products we sell. Our customers in Europe certainly love Futa products!

In the US, Futanari is also king, with a variety of people searching for futa content. Monster Girls, Big Dick, Harem, and Cheating are also popular in some regions. Up in North Dakota, they never forget family!

The Rise and Fall of Hentai Tags over the Years

J-List has been selling fun products from Japan for a mind-blowing twenty-eight years. During that time, we’ve seen hentai tags rise and fall in popularity several times. In the late 1990s, there was a “tentacle boom” as doujins and hentai anime with naughty tentacles exploded in popularity, which eventually faded, only to return around 2016. Futanari has exploded in popularity several times, most recently in the mid-2010s. While everyone claims to hate NTR online, anime publishers keep producing it and some J-List customers love to buy it.

But the only constant in life is change, and if a certain hentai genre falls out of favor, I know that it’s only a matter of time before it becomes popular again.

Thanks for reading this blog post about the top hentai tags in each country, and in each state of the US. What hentai tag is popular where you live, and do you agree with it? Tell us in the comments below!
