Today is the 34th birthday of Ayana Taketatsu, a popular voice actress and singer who has voiced some of the most famous anime characters over the past dozen years. Let’s look at her most important voice roles, and try to pick her best one!
Happy Birthday to Ayana Taketatsu!
Ayana Taketatsu was born June 23, 1989. Growing up, she loved the voice performances in anime like Sailor Moon and Card Captor Sakura, as well as visual novels like Kanon and Sister Princess. When she expressed interest in becoming a voice actress, her parents were very supportive of her.
At the age of 14, she joined a theater company affiliated with E.I.M., which trains up-and-coming voice talent. Her debut role was Ako Suminoe in Kiss x Sis, which started a long tradition of her playing incestuous sister characters. “I was only 16 at the time of my debut,” she said in an interview. “I remember being so busy with my voice acting work, keeping up with homework and doing a part-time job.”
Her big break came with the role of Azusa Nakano from K-On!, which made her a household name among anime otaku.
On her 30th birthday, Ayana announced that she had married Yuki Kaji, voice of Eren Yaeger from Attack on Titan and Nishikata from Karakai Jouzu no Takagi-san. The couple recently welcomed their first child.
Ayana Taketatsu’s nickname among fans is ‘Ayachi.’

Nino Nakano from Quintessential Quintuplets. One of her most popular characters is Nino from the Quintessential Quintuplets anime. I loved the scene where she confessed her feelings to Fuutaro in true tsundere fashion.
Koizumi-san from Ramen Daisuki Koizumi-san. An anime that makes eating ramen extra-fun, because all the shops that feature in the anime are real, and you can visit them all on your next visit to Japan.

Azusa Nakano from K-On! One of Ayana’s most popular roles, it was fun shipping her with Yui in the fanart.
Yuzu Aihara from Citrus. Another popular role was Yuzu from Citrus, yet another character to get involved in an inappropriate relationship with a sibling.

Kotori Itsuka from Date A Live. The fiery Kotori is fun to watch in every scene, thanks to Ayane’s awesome performances.

Hotaru Shidare from Dagashi Kashi. An anime that was custom-made for J-List, this show introduced traditional Japanese candy and snacks from the Showa Period called dagashi.
Koneko Toujou from High School DxD. Who can’t love Koneko? I’d love her to lay her head on my lap.
Suguha Kirigara from Sword Art Online. Suguha is Kirito’s cousin, though she’s so close to him, she calls him oniichan. Naturally, Suguha falls in love with him, because…it’s Ayana Taketatsu.

Ako Suminoe from Kiss x Sis. Her first voice acting role is still one of my favorites, Akko-nee from Kiss x Sis, which is pronounced “Kiss Sis.” This is quite possibly the most perfect ecchi anime ever.
Kirino Kousaka from Oreimo. Finally, the role she’s most famous for is Kirino, the eroge-loving otaku sister with a brother complex.
